Bench max improvement

Post by B1rdm4n7 »

Hey everyone,

I have a question on bench press max. I hear that if I lift heavy then max would go up overtime. But do i want to do any other tricep workouts at the same time, such as close grip bench or pushups or dips?
Also if I do lift heavy how long am i looking at to see improvement. Any advice on Amount of reps, different lifts or exercises,Tips on Bench Press like form.Oh and how ong do i want to normally want to wait so that i can recover.

max effort bench 1 day - reps under 5 etc

dynamic and/or rep day another day - speed or mod rep work

do main lift (bench for example), secondary lift (close press) then assistance work (back, lats dlets etc)

You need a good foundation for heavy benching. You need to build your strength slowly over an extended period or you risk injuring yourself.

When I was younger I was always able to get strong so fast that I would tear or otherwise injure myself. Later on I trained at a more deliberate pace and I was like the tortoise--I would finish ahead of the hare.

You should try to work on a schedule that will maximize your bench over a 12 to 16 month period of time. I would not try to max out for at least the first 6 months.
