squats for tall guys

Post by Derelict »

Hey I will be implementing squats in next routine and am dreading it. I'm 6'3'' and back in the day when I used to do them it was so hard to go parallel to the floor. I know as I go on I will get better, but starting off again I was wondering if anyone knew of any good techniques that can make this easier. I was thinking of trying a wider stance but I don't know if that will hinder working certain muscles. Any ideas?

I'm probably going to go really light the first 2 weeks or so just to get the form down, but any help would be nice. Thanks!

i was going to suggest a wider stance if you need it, have someone watch you and see if you go into lumbar flexion (bum "tucks" under at the bottom) and if so never squat to that point which may not even be parallel which is the case for me

parallel isn't essential if you can't do it safely

Front Squat do wonders for tall people too ... If your goal is purely hypertrophy you should try both back and front and choose, but you'll see that the front squat for quads/core development is awesome.

I never thought about that...in fact I've never tried front squats lol, maybe I'll give em a whirl. Thanks!

You're going to love (HATE) them. I hope you got some meat on delt/upper chest because at first it's hard on the shoulder (if you choose crossarm stance, witch I personally prefer)

Well I already hate squats lol. Its the best worse exrcise. Is there any difference in using the cross arm vs the clean grip? I heard that clean grip helps with wrist flexibility and is a bit easier in the long run.

Personally, crossarms over O Style.

Try both and you'll see soon witch suits you best. Look at this :

and swanso for your website, you can put it in your signature from profile option much less trouble ahha
