Atkins probably wouldn't do anything much, it's a pretty poor diet option in opinion.

It may be a case of more controlled diet measures, or doing something like Interval Cardio, to help combat any weight gain from the disease.

I really wish I could say more, but this isn't one of strong points, but I do wish you all the luck you can get, and best wishes trying to get through this. I can't begin to imagine how this affects someone, but if there is anything we can do let us know, and we'll do what we can for you.

Take care and good luck.

thank you for the intrest....this is kinda one of those silent diseases that millions, mostly women suffer from.
It is a gland at the center of your neck that supports most of your bodies organs, heart rate, lungs your blood & many more.
most suffer from little or no metabolism, depression, bone aches shortness of breath at times. our own antibodies attack the thyroid, it can be or develop cancerous nodules..MINE IS NOT Thank God.
I was always a very thin & active woman. The hard part is that the metabolism is very hard to engage & there for you can walk or exercise & diet & still very hard to move those scales......downward.
I have not found anyone with any sound advice as to how to increase results, or has seen anyone with this that could share their results & the how to!!!!! :?
I appreciate any input or knowlege anyone has to get me back to ME!!!
Widowed 2 yrs ago & now this new journey needs a pick me up!!!
Thanks All,

As far as I know the Thyroid, also controls growth I think Growth Hormones too, in young people.

I would say then it might help for you to try, a 6 meal a day diet plan, that has a low fat moderate Carb sturucture.

So if you take 30 grams Protein 30 grams Carb, 6,5 grams Fats, you'll be having, 120 calories Protein, 120 calories Carb, 60 calorie Fats, 300 in total per meal.

So that's a healthy 1,800 calories a day.

You could also try interval training for about 30 minutes, 5 times a week and see how that pans out for you.

I would make sure you split the trainig though, so you don't have two days back to back, so something like this would be okay.

Cardio

Cardio

Day off

Cardio

Cardio

Cardio

Day Off

Those are some options that might work for you.

Whatever happens good luck, and hopefully things can work for you. We're all behind you :).

Again, I would also not recommend the Atkins diet. Are you taking synthroid or some other medication?

Sameey70,
Yes I take synthroid/levonthyroxin every morning & have blood draws to test tsh...t4 .& t3 every 4-6 weeks to check levels, can usually tell when they are off !!!!!! ick

the Atkins was sort of a last result sick & tired of being sick & tired & over weight when I never have been prior to this.

Hi Pam,

sister also has hypothyroidism, so I'm familiar with it and all it does. As for weight loss, well I've read that taking a calcium and a fiber suppliment aide the thyroid in working better. I believe there was something else though I can't remember. I noticed too everyone was downing the Atkins Diet... well the truth is, low carb is good, but perhapse the south beach way... you still want to limit your carb intake, but you also want healthy food... so lower carb, but lean proteins, and healthier choices... many people give Atkinds a bad reputation because people abuse it, but if you read the book it clearly says, lean proteins, and yes you can have butter, but doesn't say slop it on everything says limit it, but I think all around something more in the way of south beach is easier to maintain which is healthy and most important.... maintance. Hope this was informative for you :)

How has you sister done with the weightt control issue?I don't like this as far as feeling good & the appearance issue makes me nuts especially with a closet full of ....5"s that I can't get butt in!!!!

have a great day....[/i]

South Beach is a more realistic approach and the first two weeks is the strictest. However, the Atkins rationale is not based on scientific evidence and those with a background in biology/nutritional sciences know that many of the claims that the book makes is not based on accurate physiological processes.

Hey again Pam,

Well sister has had it all her life and she's always been over weight. She doesn't treat it properly, however it seems like when she eats less, exercises more, and gets more calcium in her diet, she losses fast with easy. Do you have an exercise routine?

atkins is not a very good approach to losing weight, for most people who use that form of dieting always feel like crap all day
