Protein Bars

Post by BeachBride »

In order to curb cravings for sweets in mid-afternoon and after dinner, would you suggest a protein bar?

* Can I pretty much use these as snack like twice a day?
* Or should I try to substitute a protein shake at night instead?

I'm worried about the extra calories I'll be taking in.... I'm looking at the package now - 170 calories per bar is the lowest I could find. The brand is Pure Protein, has 20g protein and 1g net carb.

I've tried Sugar free Jello w/whipped topping, fruit, other things and I can't find anything to satisfy me at night! I end up going thru the fridge and cupboards looking for anything to get and I usually can't find anything because I don't keep it in the house - too dangerous!

Pick one that has about a minimum, 20-25 grams Protein and about the same Carb ratio. 1g of net carb is rubbish, and means you could end up having to eat something like a Piece of Fruit to supplement your Carbs.

One or two a day won't screw things up for you in opnion, but you could have another shake instead of a Bar, the main thing is, with a Bar, you Metabolism might have more to do, because obviously solids take longer to breakdown than liquids.

One thing I would say is, don't go for something like those Trio-plex bars, as the Labels don't equate to what's in them, and it's been documented as such.

the problem is, at night, I crave sweets or chocolate... This may be due to the kind of food/or lack of that I as eating during the day. I am hoping, with this change in diet, craving will subside. But until then, I was looking a snack (other than Jello) to have at night. How about Diet Hot Chocolate? It has 25 calories... or a frozen protein bar?

it is because of little food during the day...you can try them temporarily but as soon as the cravings stop, then cut them out...hot chocolate would be better though because of les calories but will be packed with artificials i would say (empty calories like beer)
