LOL, I wish I really knew. A year ago I was 295, and now I am 200. I am a by the way so 200 does not make me extreamly over weight. I have been doing 6 days of cardio as well mostly for a half hour to 45 minutes. Sometimes I even go twice a day. I too am trying to eat healthy ( a lot of protine and fruits and veggies) however I am in the same boat you are. I have very defined arm, sholder, and leg muscles however I cannot get rid of the little tummy fat and the little fatty nipples at the end of chest. I think half of it is genetics and the other half is just having the disapline to do crunches and ab workouts 45 minutes a day. If you ever find the secret out please let me know.

Effective Strategies for weight/fat loss

You need to limit the amount of fruit you consume per day. Try to have no more than 4 portions daily. Also make sure that you don't have more than half a cup of carrots, onions, peas, corns, squash... Certain types of vegetables should be controlled. If you over indulge with these vegetables it can lead to weight gain...

I don't think any veg or fruit is gonna make you fat. Besides fruit is the best source of fibre and veg deliver nutrients and such.

Any forms of vegetables and fruits and that too balanced in a good proportion with water is the most ideal thing that should be included in the diet when one is trying to lose weight. However as all the others have said diets alone cant be the helping factor, consistent exercise along with this is as crucial. Many people also do the mistake of overdoing exercises and then following it up with over eating whatever, this shouldn’t be done else all the benefits of the exercising will then be of no avail at all.

forbidden fruits?

Post by jtheissen »

Barb, why do you say to keep fruits & veggies minimal? Is it because of the sugars/carbs?

I am 30 years old and . One week ago I was 211 when I joined a gym for the first time. For the past week I have eaten very low-carb EXCEPT for oatmeal in the morning and fruits & veggies - lots of them.

I have been on the treadmill for one hour every day (slow jog - 4 to 5 mph)

I am now 203 - that's 8lbs in first week. Sure, much of it is water, etc. and I don't expect that result every week.

I'm no expert, but in the name of offering up one possible scenario, here's mine. . .

I have a problem with packaged diets bc they are too rigid - too much to remember.

This time around, I am primarily focusing on eliminating carbs & fat. Here is what I have eaten:

Breakfast: 2 packets of instant oatmeal, coffee, apple, multi-vitamin
Snack: carrots & apples
Lunch: V8, 1 oz. cheese, 2-3 oz lunchmeat OR a can of tuna, drained, right from the can
Snack: carrots & apples
Dinner: grilled chicken breast or grilled fresh fish, salad or veggie, scrambled egg whites
NO FOOD AFTER 8pm. (This was a big problem for me, so I've made it a rule)
All day and evening, water, water, water, water and more water.

When I say this is all I am eating, I MEAN IT. So many people on here say "I watch diet, so I can't understand why I'm not losing", but who knows what they mean by watching their diet - this was not gradual - this was not 'cutting back on fast food" - this was a serious and complete change, and I think that is what you have to do if you want to see immediate results. I did this every day - no slips, no treats, no rewards. Don't convince yourself that you deserve a cheecburger for a good week - your reward is a slimmer body and healthier heart.

I am not a dietician or a trainer - No one told me to do this and I am not claiming it will work for you. This is diet based on common sense, and it is working for me. No pills, no meal bars, no supplements other than a one-a-day vitamin. This, combined with daily cardio has lost me 8 pounds in a week. (I know, I know, it's mostly water - I don't expect that every week.)

I know many of you will respond with all the things I am doing wrong or what I am eating too much/too little of. . . but I feel fantastic - tons of energy and good results - I don't feel starved, weak, or hungry at all.

It took a few days to get over the shock of no bread/rice/potatoes/pasta, but I am already over it.

Also, the resuls are a huge motivation, believe me.

depending on what time breakfast is i wood have some protein only after 8 so that you don't lose muscle overnight. i also hope your weight training with heavy load and low reps to keep muscle up or your wt loss will be muscle thus increassing even though pds have been lost. i wood have proetin with snacks as well to keep muscle. if muscle is lost, less calories are burnt, metabolism slows down and wt is gained and then back to square 1

I think diets such as south beach or the diabetic diet really help with fat. When I was pregnant I had gestational diabetes and followed the diabetic diet and it really made me feel great. Also the first place I gain is in the stomach area so when I watch the bad carbs it really helps. I am not one to give up carbs completely but when I cut put the sweets, eat small servings of whole grains (such as high fibre wheat bread, brown rice, etc) and lots of fruits and vegetables I can really see and feel the difference.
