Are you sprinting for fixed distances every time?

If you are, then perhaps if you have access to a track, you could use a hurdle as marker, run in a different lane, and possibly mark it out 10M longer than usual, and sprint an extra 10M several times that week, then do the same thing next week, and mark it out at a 120M distance etc etc.

If you sprint regularly enough, the body might be able to slowly adapt to the slightly longer distances. You might just have to at a certain distance, start partly round a bend, but initially you should be able to go for 110M maybe even 120 and 130 on a straight, in later weeks.

Might be something to consider.

you're not meant to be able to sprint for very long, that's why it's called sprinting and not jogging

100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters are sprints.

Some people call 800 meters a sprint/run, but I think most refer to it as an 800 meter "run".

For most people 400 meters is the upper limit of their sprint potential.

Sprinters run on the balls of their feet; runners with a full foot strike (heel/toe).

I think it is unrealistic to try to sprint for longer distances.

The training methods I used when I competed are not current, you should google "training methods, sprinting" for more information.

To increase your ability in sprinting you just have to go out there and do some sprinting.

I don't believe anyone sprints 400 meters. A very fast run, yes, but not a full-out sprint.

But yeah, to improve it, just sprint as long and as hard as you can.

I think elite athletes do sprint the 400 meter distance.

i don't think they do...you can't sprint a marathon...the longer the sprint is the less of a sprint it turns into

your ATP-PC stores only last for 8 - 12 secs max which is where your fast, fast, fist explosive fibres and high threashold mototr units are at their absolute best

if you split timed any portion of a 400m runner's 100m i bet they could do 1 all out 100m sprint quicker

finally otti and i agree on something, how romantic

all that being said, for sprints short distances initially are the way to go...if you can't run fast for 50m how do you expect to run fast for 400m

even better run all out x 10secs only (50 - 75m) x 5 sets w/ 30secs rest
