Get up at 6 am, go workout for an hour. How long after I get back home can I eat breakfast?

I sip protein shake during the workout. (Tiny sips between sets.) I don't know if this is ideal, but I enjoy it (along with black coffee, also in small sips between sets).

I don't workout in the mornings anymore, but in the summer when I did, I'd eat breakfast before showering (to give me time to cool down). In the winter I would not get so hot, so I would often shower first, then eat.

I don't think the coffee is good for me; I just like it. And that seems like a good enough reason for me.

understanding is that you maximize your protein assimilation by taking the protein shortly after the workout.

I sip mine during the workout. It should yield a very similar result.

understanding is that the longer you wait the less efficiently your body will utilize the protein.

Some others will have to confirm this, but I believe it is correct.

probably depends on your nutrition before hand...if you can afford it then 1 beofre and 1 after is probably best for muscle gaining but in genral a sloid prtein and veggie meal should be enough then you can have it either during or after then follow with carb type meal afterwards

Protein drinks come in all different protein levels.

I have drinks that say 17 gms of protein; another that says 23 grams.

I have one that says 42 grams of protein.

How much protein can your body absorb at one time. I know about the 4 ounce of meat/poultry guideline. There should be one for grams of protein too.

Does anyone know?

serving sizes can range on products...obviously without knowing your protein type i'd say the 42g powder is a twice as bigger serving size then the 17 and 23g one's...i think this is more of a marketing ploy more then anything else, use the whole tub in half the time then buy another in half the time = double the sales..they probably also have the big scoop too

as for the absorption thing i've read as little as 10 - 13g can only be assimilated but again it depends on how big you are, how much muscle damage you have, how you plan on shuttling the protein into your muscles (liquid, with carbs, creatine etc)

Thanks.

I'm lazy and I buy the pre-mixed bottles, so I don't think they are trying to make me use more powder.

Gone there on pre-mixed. It's good for the money sort of, because you can split the bottle half at a time, half later, but you need to quaff them within 24 hours oftne to maintain the quality, they don't last for days after opening, like a lot of drinks can.

Now I'm back on powders, as there's more scope to customise your dose, and it's a bit cheaper.

Realistically you probalby don't need anything in excess of 30g Protein in one hit.

As for Carbs, simple enter the Bloodstream at around 30 calories a minute, Complex at 2 calories per minute.

I drink a protien shake before bed, one when I wake up, and follow workout with a creatine drink (mixed with grape juice). I was about to change to eating breakfast before I workout either oatmeal with blueberries, some yogurt and fruit, eggs with wheat toast. Then have protein shake along with creatine drink right after I workout. Do you guys think either of these plans is better?
