Tha human athlete is far more developed and powerful, faster, stronger ...etc now in modern times than ever before .TheAmazingOti wrote:Old training isn't necessarily outdated and wrong.
And probably.
Do you think they do the old way better? or did they find new ways to train?
Too many fitness myths and half truths or things that need to be in proper context in order to prescribe them.
There is no one size fits all plan and very little statements that are made from the old ways that will apply to todays athlete.

Tried and tested methods still hold true today.
I will say, that I heard one time,of a new fangled Guru, supposedly claiming people who do stuff like Chest days, only do that because they're juicing.
Frankly that is utter bollocks, and a myth in itself.
Doing a 5 day workout routine where you do stuff like Chest, Back, Legs, Shoulders, Bi's / Tri's is neither wrong, nor only possible on gear.
The only way stuff like that is wrong, is if you do it for 3 hours a time, use crap technique, or incorporate iffy moves like Lat Pull downs and Wrist Curls.
Difference between a big natural who does that and a Juicer is, a big natural could probably crank out 12 sets on Chest, before really starting to suffer. A juicer could go for 18+
I conclude the person who said this, was just trying to persuade people to do his methods, so he could get more exposure, plaudits and look better.
That's not meant as a slight on such a person methods.
Fact is when you're a new guy promoting new, (and often valid techniques and methods), you're up against stuff like the Arnie style stuff from books, and other old school stuff done by guys, that yes in many instances juiced, (but didn't from day one did they), but the question is, if guys like Arnie had started training with crap methods, he would have been so screwed up and messed up, he'd have never gotten to the point where he was juicing, as he'd have been adivsed to quit lifting probably after 2-3 years, for his own physical health, or exacerbate his problems, and grow old and very painful.
I'm damn sure people like him didn't start doing splits, when they got on the gear. Yes there were crap methods, but there's always been good ones, because the passionate will monitor and assess people, to make sure their ideas work, and that the people they train give them feedback regards range of motion, pain sensations, how they look on each side of their bodies etc etc.
Most people don't develop training methods with a hit and hope mentality, they probably I would think, in the old days, analysed certain ways the body moved, applied a bit of experimentation on themselves, then monitored such things on others, and got feedback.
That's how training styles probably evolved to way of thinking.
I've seen a lot of peole where I train do splits, and most of them have decent build, though they're not necessarily after massive mass, and they don't walk funny, or complain of bad fatigue or old injuries, because they use old style methods, but get the technique right, and in this game technique is the key thing with any good weightlifting exercise.
New methods don't trump old stuff that often to me, except in certain cases where an old exercise has been shown to be pointless like Wrist Curls.
New stuff has it's place, but so do quality old school routines, and the individual should do what they think is best. Although if they do old school stuff, they should use proper sources like Arnie books etc etc, not workouts in Mags.

Part of it is genes, if someone gave me the exact same workout routine, diet, everything that Bruce did, we wouldn't have the same results. I would probably be strong and lean but still, body structure is different than his because of genetic makeup. Also, what works for one person may not work for all.TheAmazingOti wrote:It's not genes.
