I am in a metal band and i headbang a LOT. The day after shows neck and back are pretty sore (usually lasting 3 days or so). I stretch before i go on, but that doesnt seem to help much. I was wondering if using a protein supplement either before or after shows would help the muscles recover quicker. I would assume strengthening the back and neck muscles would help as well. I am working on that part, just wanted to know about a quicker recovery from the soreness and almost spasming if i tense up the muscle too much. Thanks for help or advice.
PS Stopping the headbanging is not an option....heh. I've heard that one before.

was actually just thinking about while i was rockin out to "early mornin" by sugar ray...you say u can't stop but maybe u need to break up how hard you go...i was liking the head movement to plyometric / ballistic type movements which take the longest to recover from...probably just eat a fair bit of protein but because your "shicking" the spine it causes central nervous system breakdown which just slows recovery even more...i would only focus on making the muscles bigger not neccesarily stronger as the stronger they are, the harder you'll "rock" thus more damage...either that or play more boyz II men songs
