Just curious if anyone has heard of this?
friend who is a bodybuilder says immediately after your workout slam a protein shake with glutamine and creatine mixed in (standard) but after that drink something with a lot of sugar i.e. gatorade, powerade and it somehow spikes your insulin levels forcing that nutrience into your muscles?
There's a section in this article called "Creatine With Juice Vs.Creatine Plus Products". Give it a read, it may help answer your question.

Carbs increase Insulin activity, which helps utilise Protein.
As for Creatine, it's the same thing, as Creatine is made of about 3 amino acids, so you want the same basic mechanism probably, and something like Gatorade works with Creatine.
Because your Metabolism is revved you son't need to worry too much about simple Sugar, converting to Fat in part, but realistically you want with Protein either Complex Carbs, or a mix of Complex simple, or a combination Sugar like Palatinose or Glucomannan, as Simple on its own does not promote Muscle Glycogen recovery, as it interacts with the Liver.

Sugar spikes will cause insulin spikes. If your system works perfectly then you will not have any problems with this.
brother and I both have issues with insulin spikes. Our system routinely produces higher levels of insulin than the sugar requires. This in turn creates a demand for more sugar, triggering a cycle that can last all day.
Instead we both try to eat foods with lower glycemic indexes; that is food that digests slower and is not likely to create these spikes.
Gatorade has a good bit of sugar in it. I (personally) would not use this cocktail. It might be fine for some other people.

you want to take advantage of the insulin spike after training as it will allo0w more absorption of nutrients...at other times of the day definately not though...i'm not really sure but gatorade has diffferent sugars in it too that may not be the best for replenishment after wts training...anyone know more on this?
