As im sure many of you know already I feel terrible after doing even 5 mins of cardio. So much so I hardly ever do HIIT at the end of weights session. So all the cardio I am doing is 20 min walk to gym and 5 min warm up on rower 3 times a week. I also do a 40 min tae bo dvd once a week.
Do I need to be forcing myself to do the HIIT? I did it today and feel lousy now. Thought i was gonna be sick on journey home.
No you don't need to force yourself. Most of the results regarding regular common or garden physical condition, come from weights and diet. If you don't like HIIT, switch it. Just do something like Interval on a recumbant Bike for example, and make sure you're using a pretty good level though, don't just go for a limp wristed level 1 setting, at least level 3 .
I literally have 3 hours spare a week to work out. Sometimes four if they are kind to me with shifts. I work off doing weights and its doing cardio after that i struggle with. I am just wacked. I could do it before but obviousely lifting would be affected.
Im really considering going to the doc as I should not feel ill every time i work out. When i get the time to go that is.
I did a really good workout today but then i felt sooo ill. I went to the doctors and was there for ages going through symptoms etc and he suggested i have adrenal fatigut. i had never heard of it. There is no clinical test or treatment for it so he told me to look into it and go see a holistic therapist. Heres what i foung, it is sooo me
Do You Have Adrenal Fatigue?
When the adrenal glands are not functionining optimally, you can have a condition that is known as adrenal fatigue, or adrenal exhaustion. Adrenal fatigue often develops after periods of intense or lengthy physical or emotional stress, when overstimulation if the glands leave them unable to meet your body's needs.
Some other names for the syndrome include non-Addison's hypoadrenia, sub-clinical hypoadrenia, hypoadrenalism, and neurasthenia.
Symptoms include:
excessive fatigue and exhaustion
non-refreshing sleep (you get sufficient hours of sleep, but wake fatigued)
overwhelmed by or unable to cope with stressors
feeling rundown or overwhelmed
craving salty and sweet foods
you feel most energetic in the evening
a feeling of not being restored after a full night's sleep or having sleep disturbances
low stamina, slow to recover from exercise
slow to recover from injury, illness or stress
difficulty concentrating, brain fog
poor digestion
low immune function
food or environmental allergies
premenstrual syndrome or difficulties that develop during menopause
consistent low blood pressure
extreme sensitivity to cold
Did they check your thyroid? What symptoms do you have besides being tired? Adrenal Fatigue and thyroid disorders have many of the same symptoms. http://www.drrind.com/scorecardmatrix.asp
I have been worried about thyroid for years but nobody really takes me seriousely as im fit and healthy and bp, pulse etc is steady. But I really wanna start feeling better.
Clare, make an appointment with an Endocrinologist. An Endocrinologist is a doctor that specializes in endocrine gland disorders, diabetes, thyroid disorders, hormone imbalances, blood sugar issues and so on. There are specialized tests that can be done to find out what is going on with you. You might also make an appointment with an allergist. Food and environmental allergies can cause a wide range of symptoms/problems.
Little Shelley im a nurse so kinda understand all the medical stuff behind it. The problem is in the UK you cant just make an appointment to see a specialist, you have to be referred by you GP.
Im gonna go and see another GP at doctors surgery and see if i have any more luck.
Definitely make an appt. to see a doc. Shelly's advice to see an endocrinologist is a great start.
I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism last year, ironically enough through a routine blood test, and only done because I mentioned mother had thyroid issues. The results came back with thyroid functioning below normal range. I had no signs and symptoms like you are experiencing. I was still put on Synthroid to control thyroid function. BP and pulse is always good...so get to that doctor girl!
Good choice. Endo would be the way forward but yes GP referral is the usual method.
Thyroid problems as you probably know can lead to fatigue, reduced immune function, muscle loss, Fat gains etc etc, but perhaps if you've not experienced such things
Could be stress related as if about it, you might have for some reason been over producing Adrenaline, taxing the Adrenal Glands too much.
Particularly in light of your recent issues you talked about, (relationship wise), that might have been a possible contributary factor.
I would personally take a few days off from training, and keep the diet in check until you get somewhere with the process, as you don't want to stimulate another issue. like you had after your last workout.
