Its vital that you do a cool down and stretch after a workout. Do static stretching doing 3 stretches of 21 sec on each muscle group worked.

Then active rest the very next day. Active rest is similar to a cool down in that it is used to get the blood flowing but not to really make you tired, its there to help get rid of some of the waste products that are still remaining in the muscles as a result of the previous days exercise. Some trainers say you should do 1 set of 20 reps of the muscle group you did the day before to specifically target those muscles, but it doesn't work for me (But has for some of friends).

DOMS is usually at its worst 2 days after the work out so the active rest shouldn't be too painful.

Your muscles will need to repair themselves so eating the right post-workout food is important. high protein shakes or meals
