Boxing
This might be a question for a different forum, but then again maybe not.
I was hoping some one had any input on boxing or better yet kick boxing. as in how one would go about starting out? Is 27 yrs old too old to start? I've been told i have a good frame for it and reach is good. but is being taller actually an advantage? anyway it be good to hear anyones input.
Thanks

You're not too old. I train in Muay Thai and we have quite a few people in their 50's and 60's that train in the gym with us. Being taller is an advantage if you're fighting someone smaller than you for sure. But chances are with weight classes you will be fighting people similar to yourself.
You're reach will be a good advantage if and only if you learn how to use it. Technique is more important than anything physical.

I cant attest to kickboxing but I didnt start boxing till I was 28, I fought the gloves twice and found myself in the best shape of life. A long reach is great for fighting if you can use it to your advantage (meaning dont let your opponent get inside). At any rate, 27 isnt too old for anything, you'll just have to start fighting in the senior division (starts at 25).
Conditioning-wise you are fine. I don't know if you will be able to achieve a satisfactory skill-set with this late a start, but there are many cases of late bloomers in sports. But in boxing you will find a number of athletes from other sports (football and basketball as I recall) who were well-conditioned, but fell short on the boxing skills.luke101 wrote:yes i am. should of specified. somehow it feels unrealistic to me but won't deter me anyway
Good luck.
I do muay thai as well and its really great. Yet im only 16 years old. Theres a woman at our gym that fights muay thai profesionally and I think shes 28. The oldest guy there is in his late 60's. Muay Thai I think I way better and funner than boxing. But boxing is great too though. Muay Thai is a REALLY good way to get in shape, and just become stronger. Theres quite a bit of muay thai fighters and even K-1 fighters that are in your age range. If you could find a muay thai, or even a kickboxing school around you that'd be the best thing to do.

Not to old to start physically wise. However probably too old to start in the political aspect i.e. getting the right fights etc. etc..
Better find an agent , and a GOOD manager , so you can concentrate on all your efforts of the training aspect. ( just trying to keep it real man, not discourage you in any way)
Good luck on your quest, the training is going to be the easy part.
