i have been doing 3-4 miles rotating between elliptical and treadmill. i do good with food through the day but in the evening the hubby likes to go out for wings and beer... anyway i go between 3-5 days a week started thanksgivning have only lost 8lbs. what can i do..
Hmmm... The problem might seem obvious for those of us who live, eat, and breath this stuff but it can be pretty confusing for those just getting into it.
I can see several problems here.... A) Beer and wings are awful.. especially when eaten on a regular basis B) Only cardio? You need weights and you need to change up your routine and up your intensity. Doing the same routine every day will get you nowhere C) What does it mean that you "do good with food during the day"? I'm assuming this means that you eat as little as possible, then you're starving by the time you get off work and you can't resist those wings and beer? For food you need to eat every 2-3 hours and eat lots of protein, veggies, whole grains, healthy fats, and fruits. Beer and wings will get you nowhere.
You might post an example of your daily routine/diet so we can see what you're doing... and see where changes can be made. :)
i usually eat oatmeal for breakfast then maybe a yogurt before lunch.. then at lunch i eat subway and veggies and fruits for snacks... i go mon-wed-fri to gym to wich i do 3 miles on elliptical in 20 min. then maybe 15 min. of running then i go to doing rows and some side bends with weights. i live on a farm so in the evening im usually lifting , pulling, carrying 5 gallon buckets of water to the animals and taking care of them. but i usually go in between on tues-thurs and go to the ymca and swim in the mornings before work.
1 cup of cooked oatmeal has about 145 calories, 6 grams of protein. Not sure how much youre eating here but i would definitely add in a piece of fruit and maybe an egg and a few eggwhites to bump up your protein intake.
Yogurt has anywhere from 90-250 calories (depending on what kind you're eating) and usually has less than 10 grams of protein with a significant amount of sugar (unless you're eating the kind made with artificial sugars?). For this meal you'd be better going for a piece of fruit and a protein source.
Lunch looks good as long as youre sticking to only whole wheat breads and staying away from the mayo spread. Make sure you load up on the veggies here and stay away from the chips and soda often offered with a subway meal. A sandwhich usually has no more than 300 calories
About 2-3 hours after lunch you'll need another meal of protein and veggies and maybe a few nuts or slices of avacado.
Looking at the diet you've posted, you're currently getting about 1000 calories (thats rough high estimate) before dinner. You might have better luck increasing that caloric intake and sticking to whole foods, healthy fats, lean proteins, lots of veggies, and fruits (usually for the morning meals). I'm not sure what your current weight is, but i'm assuming you'd be better off starting at about 2000 calories a day of ONLY healthy calories. This means no beer and no wings. By increasing your caloric intake you will be more likely to maintain the diet.
For workouts... the elliptical is ok, but instead of doing a steady pace do intervals... where you go all out for maybe a minute, then go at a slower pace for a minute, then pick it up again for a minute, then slow it back down. This will shock your system and hopefully help you to start burning more fat. For weights... Why only rows and side bends? If I were you I would move to a total body workout doing things like lunges, deadlifts, squats, row variations, pushups, pullups, and dips. The work you are doing on the farm is great, but i'm assuming you've been lifting those same 5 gallon buckets for a while now allowing your body to become very efficiant at constantly lifting that weight. In order to see changes, you need to shock your system by adding in some different exercises.
