I need to GAIN weight!!

Post by Markus1 »

HEllo guys.

I know you may find it strange but problem is that i am too skinny! I mean i eat quite alot but can't seem to gain any weight. I am 5'6 and weigh 61kg and would like to get more well built. I guess metabolic rate is way over the top. BTW i am 26 yrs old and i feel i am trapped inside an 18yr old's body

Any suggestions?

hi
man , maybe u are hard gainer just like me , do just like i did some years ago and it is lifting heavy weights on these basic exercices :
legs=squat + press incline,deadlift
chest=bench presses( incline,flat , decline) , dips (with wights if u can)
shoulders=dumbbells presses , military press, Bent over Lateral raise using dumbbells
back=chins (with weight if u can), rowing barbell ,dead-lift with barbell
triceps=Barbell Triceps Extensions ,dips .
biceps=incline curls dumbbells ,one arm curls dumbbells ,hammer curls
calves= calves seated raises
abs=crunch, leg raises
u have to give up on doing extensions with cables and machines and exercices of definition if you want to gain weight, use just free weights and the basic exercices , plus do just 4 or 5 sets this way ( 12 or 15 reps to warm up then 8 reps then 8 then 6,6reps) using forced reps methode , this is why u need trainer partner
dont forget to take weight gainers and whey protein , they will help you to gain mass and to increase strenght and rest good
this is the only way to gain mass if u are an ectomorphe ,you have to lift heavier weights each time u go to gym ( and be careful , train smart and avoid injuries) and eat lots of good food and lots of water too .
good luck

Genetics

Post by theguru »

Hi Markus,

"The sins of the father shall revist the son..." haha .. a bit deep i know, over the top. THe point I'm making is that genetics are the underlying factor in our body shape.

Look back at your family...if your father was 12 years in the gym 4 days per week and still looks like Mr Bean, then chances are you'll be that way too. Thats not to say you can't have a great body with the right training. But you may not be able to have the "Arnold" look...maybe more the "Bruce Lee" look.

In which case you'd have to train differently...but thats a whole nother subject.

For more advice on exercises, training tips, supplements, chat rooms, etc visit http://www.mauricegreenland.co.uk

Cheers The Guru.

i don't think there's such a thing as a hargainer it just means that you may need to be more strict in your approach. You may think that you eat a lot but it's probably no where near a lot compared to other. One way or another your gonna have to find a way to eat more. Bodybuilders list of exercises are good although i wouldn't bother with any direct arm or calf work. Stick with 3 - 4 compounds (squats, deadlift variations, clean and press, benches, pull ups, dips) per session with 2 warm up sets and 2 - 3 working sets. If you've not done any training before than start with 15 - 20 reps and gradually work down while increasing wt untill 6 - 8 and you should see gains. Food is 80% of it so make sure you have a plan focusing on quality foods but the odd cheat meal won't make much of a difference and will provide extra calories

Hi markus,

i think we have the same problem you and me, i'm approx 1.70(meters) and weigh just under 60 kilos. i guess that makes me pretty skinny too ... :)

it's like i can eat almost anything but don't seem to gain any weight. i've just now really trying to eat more than usually, doing some running and some exercises, in the hope i'll grow some more muscle.

this site is one of the most helpful i've come accross (even though i haven't been able to read a lot about the nutrition part)

it's hard too, cause sometimes i don't fully understand what people are trying to say - i usually speak dutch :lol:- , (carbs, proteins...) and i don't feel like taking additives or weight gainers or sumthing.
there's alot of info to take in, too much at once...

i guess what i really am trying to say is i'm looking for a good exercise routine to work on because now i can only describe it as improvising.
if i still feel sore i work another muscle group...
i don't have a whole lot of equipment (actually that's dumbbells only :lol:)

any help is appreciated, like: you can't go wrong with a bowl of brown rice every two days...
or here are some good rookie dumbbell routines...

SNAP: holy thread revival, i just now see that this thread is way old... sorry bout that...

Try eating a lot of those hi-cal energy bars, that way you can gain weight without eating stuff that's bad for you.
