What exercise equipment that will give me the most for $500?

Post by ProfitOfDoom »

Im new to working out. I kinda get into it here and there but only thing I have is a tony little gazelle cardio thing. Its ok,I mean I got it for free and it keeps me moving "im sure its better then nothing" I do that for 20 mins a day and im not really feeling anything from it. I recently tried a billy blanks dvd and that about kills me and I only make it about 20 mins into it. I think I'll stick with the billy blanks bootcamp video for awile,as it is kinda fun and challenging and can really feel it after that workout.
But im looking to buy something for muscle building/toning. I really like the idea of the bowflex, you can do alot of exercises, doesnt take up too much space, and no heavy weights that can be dropped on feet or heads "I have kids that love messing around,I had to sell old weight bench"
Im sure there great but jesus for a top of the line model I would have to re finance the house. They have some other models for like $$600-$1000 new,if I found some used they would be more in price range, but before I go buying one I just had a few questions. Is this a good piece of equipment? will it work entire body from beginning level now,to when I get advanced?
Also what about the bowflex imatations,I seen some at sears awile ago "forget what there called" but they looked very similar and alot cheaper, any word on those?
But besides those any other equipment would be worth getting instead?

Basics.

1 x Long Bar 10Kg, (22lbs approx).

2 x short Bars. All Bars including Clips or Collars of course.

2 x 10Kg Discs, (22lb Discs approx).

4 x 5Kg, (11lb Discs approx).

4 x 2Kg, (4.4lb Discs approx).

4 x 1Kg, (2.2lb Discs approx).

1 x Bench with an inclined Back.

Oher optional possibles include, two Bands, Mat, Swiss Ball and Medicine Ball.

Some shops might not sell 1kg and 2kg Discs, they might sell 1.25Kg and 2.5Kg Discs, so you'd have to get them.

You shouldn't need anything else for starters.

Im looking in more of the line of a bowflex,or similar, well doesnt even have to be rods, just not free weights. I had a nice bench and olympic style weights and kids and friends would get in there and mess around and drop them and try to move them and smash there toes or worse so I sold them.
So im looking for either a rod resistance type thing,or even those type with the cables and pulleys stacks or weights, whats do you guys think of those vs free weights?
Can anyone recommend a machine like that, that wont take up to much room,im pretty much looking to do bench presses, and shoulder pull down thing, and legs. I dont need one that does a 1000 exercises, just something on the cheaper size, will work me out,and will last for awile.
