Hi, Im new to this forum so not sure if im in the right section. Has anyone any advice to why i feel very light headed when i attend the gym? I mainly do weights with some cardio thrown in but sometimes i cant even manage 25mins as i feel really light headed and i have to come out. diet is good and i have a lot of protein shakes but i cannot understand why i feel light headed.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for you replys, sorry i was not clear. Protein shakes i take are as snacks between meals. I know you are suppose to eat small every 2/3hrs but in job that is not at all possible. I tend to eat pre-workouts either pasta, chicken and veg, baked potato and tuna something along those lines. I normally have a supplement drink after training with a banana or something but sometimes i don't even get to finish training as i feel if i am going to pass out. It was mentioned that i was probably burning sugar and that sugar count was low but not sure how true that is.
Thanks again
Thanks again

Hi there,
Have you had your iron levels checked? How many calories are you consuming a day? Several years ago I was having issues where I was extremely light headed a great deal of the time and would actually faint about once a day. It turned out that (do to an eating disorder) I had managed to become extremely anemic. I'm not saying that you have an eating disorder by any means, but I did have a similar problem that was caused severly restricted diet and low iron intake.
If I were you I think I would go to the doctor for a checkup to make sure everything is ok.
Hope this helps!
Cassie :)

Hi there!
I have been having the same problem but mine does not seem to effect me whilst I am at the gym but more after. Fatigue, lack of concentration, mood swings and light-headedness. The only thing that gets rid of it for me is a glucoze tablet. I have wondered why this is and can only put it down to me being too strict in diet and omitting sugary foods.
I now dont get headaches, etc as frequent through having isotonic sports drinks before and after the gym. But I too would like more information on this area if anyone can help out?!

Just see a doctor to check your iron level. One time i gave blood, and excerised the next day, I was light-headed and passed out... so that is definitely one posibility.
if it is only lightheadedness with no other symptom, chances are it's more a blood-sugar problem. But, if you have shortage of breathe, shivering, or any symptoms that are really uncomfy + lightheadedness, chances are your iron level is low, which means that you have less active hemoglobin to transfer oxygen to your body.
the best way to know is to go to doctor.

oh any btw, if taking glucose tablets are helping you, you might want to check for diabetes.. just in case. brother is diabetic, and that's a symptom of diabetes when you're active and don't have enough sugar.
Not that you have it or anything, diabetes has MULTIPLES of symptoms, but one common one is the one mentioned.

Yes agreed. From what I am reading, you should be checked for things like Blood sugar issues and Iron problems. You may also be getting an Iron problem, if you have a low Copper intake, as Copper helps to regulate Iron activity, regards usage and storage, kind of similar to Vit D's role with Calcium, in that it's kind of a complimentary Mineral for Iron.
So you might need to see a Doctor, and if you have any problems with Red Erythrocyte Blood Cells for example, it might be a slight issue with Production from the Bone Marrow, or possibly a Spleen option, as the Spleen helps to clean, filter and maintain Blood.
So if it came ot it, possibly a Haematologist might be needed, but that's a hypothetical future scenario, right now Blood checks and Blood Sugar checks should be ascertained in opinion, as you need to rule out medical problems, rather than second guessing it with dietary changes.
