Will this workout work?

Post by madmaxx »

Hey guys, it's been a few months since I posted here and let me just first off start by saying: Thanks for the help and this website! It's been a little over 6 months now and I have lost a tremendous amount of weight. 65 lbs to be exact. I am now at 200 lbs :D and still working hard toward goal. As time went by, I have learned so much about what to eat and I have gained so much experience with weights and all of that good stuff. But I have come to a point where I need to change workout completely. What I mean by that is I won't have so much free time anymore and spend a long time at the gym like these last few months because of school.

I was hoping that strength training 3x week and cardio 5x week will do the trick. Before I worked out a muscle group everyday with cardio on top of that. So Chest + 30 min cardio on Mon, Shoulders + 30 min cardio Tues etc... Of course I would actually go to the gym twice a day, so cardio in the morning, and then strength later in the day.

question is that I won't be able to exercise muscles as much as before and so what should I do about that? Will 3 x a week be good enough to keep current muscle and plus make it stronger? And I still want to do cardio as much as I did before, can I do it together with strength training session so for example, Chest / Tri's + 30 min cardio afterwards?

P.S. family didn't even recognize me when we were having dinner at chrismas! The hard work definitely paid off.

You can do 3 x a week for 1 hour and do an effective workout, maybe even more effective then what you were doing before.

You should be doing a full body workout each time and then maybe adding in a bit of high intensity cardio at the end. For a full body workout you should be using heavy weights and doing an exercise for each muscle group.

Ill leave it to the experts to go deeper into it for you.

A massive congrats on what you have achieved so far. You should be extemely proud of yourself. :D

Awesome, I will definitely look into the full body workouts then. Sounds like a fun change. Yea things were getting kind of repetitive towards the end and I was starting to get bored.

And thanks, I do feel proud of what I have accomplished. This is definitely one of the biggest things I have committed myself to and it feels great to actually see results.

Check out the Waterbury Method.

A few dudes on here recommend it, I'm into week two at the moment, just trying something new for myself. Alot of all round stuff when working out, rather than just focusing on specific areas.

Awesome, I've read about the Waterbury Method before, before I really wanted to try it but I was scared of lifting heavy weights that fast, just because I was new to the whole gym thing and I didn't want to injure myself. But I'll definitely give this a try. Just one question though, I've been taking this protein that gym has been selling and I always wondered about those products, are they bad for you? Even though they are made from dairy products. I've read that they can cause kidney and / or liver problems, is that true? Or maybe it's just a hoax. Maybe from taking them to much?

I also see that it's a 1 month program, so what do people do after that 1 month of doing the waterbury method? What's after that?

You can combine chest with back or arms and shoulders and then legs into single days.

protein powder is fine, that's all bullshit

WM is 4 weeks then you can either do another program or change the movements around and repeat it

with lack of time muscle splits are the last thing you'll do so get out of that way of thinking...full body workouts, 2 x sprint sessions a week and you're done

Thanks for all the advice. I don't know where I would be if it wasn't for this website. :)
