Should i decrease the weight ?

Post by alpa_ch1no »

alright brother has a "horizon home gym" that he uses and gets a lot of results, But somehow i dont.

i normally do 3 sets of 8-10 reps. He uses half the weight i do but does as many as he can without stopping and gets better results than me. Should i keep doing what ive been doing or try something else out?

Horizon Home Gym:

Lots of reps with a light weight can get you quick muscle mass but it will not last long if you lay off for any period of time.

Stick with what you are doing. You will get there a bit slower but the muscles will be solid and will stay with you for a longer time.

Home gyms are generally lightly constructed and some are downright flimsy. None will stand up to commercial gym use.

But for home use they generally will stand up OK.

The change over from exercise to exercise can be time consuming too.

But, when you factor in the drive time to the gym and back, and the annual cost of gym membership this can make sense. It does take the social aspect out of working out though.

The biggest deficiency of home gyms is that you have to come home first. With regular gym, if you pack your bag in the morning, you can workout before coming home from work. In that way by the time you get home all the stresses of work have been expunged by the exercise and you end up being much more agreeable to your spouse and family.

i don't see the logic behind decreasing the weight unless your routine includes heavy and light days alternating within the week.

Alpa,

You don't mention your age or your brother's age. Nor do you mention how long you and your brother have been training.

If you are younger than your brother it could affect the way you pack on muscle.

If your brother has been training longer than you that could account for the difference in muscle mass too.

If you are identical twins and have been training for the same amount of time it would be interesting to do some experiments on you...

One bottle of protein once a week is not going to make any difference.

I think you should stick with your current program for (a total) of at least 4 to 6 months before making any decision on changes.

the only exercise you should be using that for is rows from the hi and lo pulley and maybe a pulldown...other then that free wts and bodyweight are a much better option

yeah ive been slacking off lately on the machine and just doing pulldowns and sometime bench press on it.

ive been doing a lot of push ups lately, like i do them every 2 minutes for half an hour which come out to like 280 or something like that.

should i just do the bench press in the machine or does that sound good ?

Don't stop doing them. Just do less of them. If they're getting too easy try switching to explosive pushups. Have your hands leave the ground on each rep. You go down like a normal pushup but then at the top you explode up and let your hands go airborne, you can even add in a clap if you like.
