Hello everyone! I'm new to this site & found way to this forum about hypothyroidism. About 12 yrs ago I thought I was going through some major depression because of symtoms I was suffering from. I was always tired & fatigued, sleepless nights, lack of concentration, memory went bye-bye,skin became thick & dry, hair was falling out....eyebrows & legs didnt need any shaving, speech became slower & voice became deeper, and yes I went from 135lbs at 35yrs old to 199lbs in less than 1 year. I went undiagnoised too long!!! Once on Meds(Synthroid/Levo) it took some time before feeling slightly better & realized I wasn't going crazy! At the time I was a stay at home mom raising 3 young children & helping husband run a business....I felt exhausted,useless,mentally/physicallyfatigued!
Over the past 10 yrs or so I've not been able to get lower than 180lbs.
I developed heel spurs on both feet from weight gain & can no longer run 10 miles or even ride bike because of the pressure on feet feel like splinters...I'm interested in the Amour product...do you think this could help???? I used to run daily, play hours of racquetball & gave 1 hr classes on floor exercises & proper use of the weights equipment at the local gym.....now(hahahah)I still play racquetball but feet hate me for it! I'm currently taking 125mg of synthroid...I need encouragement!
I dont know if I could drop the weight ???? I've had 2 minor strokes in the last 4 years....yes stress played apart of it....but so did over all health!
Can someone direct me in what they would do to help me lose weight?

The heel spurs might be related to Plantar Fasciitis, which is inflammation of a tissue structure on the sole of Foot, called the Plantar.

Weight can be one trigger of P F.

You should get it checked with a doctor, as you may need some kind of Anti-inflammatories, but if this is P F, any NSAIDS people might normally get for it, may interact badly with the Thyroid meds, and may possibly be contraindicated, in which case you'd need some other treatment protocol, which the doctor would have to decide.

I would suggest you see an endocrinologist for further information, and see if there is anything you may need to do regarding things like Salt, Fat Calcium, Phosphorus intake for example, and possibly other nutrient changes or limitations you may need.

Hello Boss Man,

I have done both things you have recomended...
1-consultation w/an endo to do blood work for T3/T4 levels.
2.consultation w/podiatrist & I do have Plantar Fasciitis.

I believed I needed an adjustment on dosage so I recently visited the Endo & will receive the lab results this week on blood test.

What can I read up on to help me understand problem with Hypothyroidism,Plantar Fasciitis & issue with the 65 lbs I've gained in 1 year that I have not been able to lose? This rapid weight gain is directly related to condition & can I acomplish goal in dropping back down to 135-140 lbs? Your response is greatly appreciated!
I dont like to diet, so I need some input &/or instruction on how to eat healthier...plus it appears that the racquetball games are not benefitting me in effort to lose weight alone.

What would your plan consist of if you were in high heels?(haha)shoes?
Please share with me your knowledge & or experience or opinion!

Thank you in advance!

I would suggest you look for resources like Medicinenet, Medline Plus, and for things like Plantar Faciitis try the Google Image Search, as you can usually find great high quality graphical visuals about differing anatomical parts and issues.

You're going to need to be careful regarding any exercise, for now, as things like the Parathyroid, may be affected, and obviously Metabolism in general, meaning you could have suffered some reduction in bone density, and exercising may cause issues, particularly with Cardiovascular work.

It would be prudent to try and take further steps, once the bloodwork gets done and not before, as the Endocrinologist might want to make specific suggestions, which at this point, it would be not good for me to second guess, incase they say things I am not familiar with, or contradict anything I might say.

Hello amatlack,

Post by littleO »

Thank you for your response about hypothyroid.
Q.? How much weight did you initially gain over what period of time?
Q.? How much have you lost since becoming stable on meds?
I've read & heard this is a Lifer thing...I'll just keep believing & praying for miracle !!!!

Best regards!

Best of luck. It all just requires a lifestyle change. I can do almost everything right and lowest weight ever was 182. Just something I have to live with. :-)

I read somewhere on a site recently someone claiming to potentially remove Thyroid issues, with medications, he was some kind of big wig medic of some kind, but I can't remember where the site was.

Perhaps it might be worht googling something like "natural thyroid treatments or something like that."

Yeah that's true. You can also I believe get Hashimoto's from an untreated Hypothyroid condition, and I think also Graves Disease is possible from an untreated Hypothyroid condition.
