How Do You Stay Motivated?

Post by mlssrod »

I find it so hard to stay motivated at times. Its like Yes, I know i want to lose weight but instead of working out today like I planned I'll work out tomorrow and tomorrow never comes. Or favorite...I scheduled in a day where I could have a "bad meal" (hamburger, chips, pizza) whatever heart desires that day and that day becomes a week! ha ha.

I end up getting mad at myself and just give up.

I haven't been under 200 lbs in over a year. That scares the crap out of me.

I know weight shouldn't determine happiness but it does. I get so depressed when clothes don't fit I just rather not go out.

I don't know how to motivate myself to move ! haha

I want to know how you motivate yourselves even when you feel like giving up...

Don't want to sound rude, but could you please in future, only post a question once on the site as it might cause conflicting advice, or someone may post on one part of the site, in a similar way to someone else on another part, and theerby wasting thier time.

Anyway, good to see you here, and I hope you keep enjoying the site, and what we can offer.

Take care and best wishes :).

What keeps me motivated is looking at what I want to look like.

I agree.

motivation comes from not wanting to lose in the cage. I feel everyone has to find their own motivation.

What motivates you???

Here's one for you.....go to your local or nearby nursing home. What you will find is mostly 60-75 year olds who should be active and enjoying life, but who are instead, grossly overweight or in the home due to various illnesses and/or injuries CAUSED by their weight, eating habits, or general living habits of the last 40 years. Overeating, or eating the wrong foods will contribute to diabetes, lack of physical activity will lead to no flexibility or no muscles!! M-I-L broke her leg a week ago. She was to be in the hospital a week and then rehab for 4-6 days. They told her yesterday 6-8 weeks in rehab because she's got no muscle. She's 80 pounds overweight, and is only 5'2". She has so many medical problems and I just can't help but feel so many of them are due to her extremely poor eating habits and no physical activity. "It's just too hard!" was her cry always. When you're 80 pounds overweight, yep, it's too hard, but every pound off is one pound easier. Stop looking at your weight loss need as 50 pounds or 25 pounds or whatever huge goal that is. dad always asked "how do you eat an elephant?" One bite at a time. So pick a percent.....5% of your weight now and work toward THAT loss. If you're 200, then 5% of 200 is 10 pounds. Work towards a 10 pound loss. Then start your next 5% goal! You won't believe how much better you will feel when that first 5% comes off! There's your motivation.
You know how some "hygienic processes" are more difficult the heavier you are? Well, guess what? That first 10 pounds will make such a difference you won't want to stop!!! I promise.
I hope this helps. I've been over 200 pounds for over 4 years and I've tried so many diets and worked out, but always lost motivation after 3-4 pounds. This time I'm sticking with it!!! After two weeks I'm under 200! I've lost 7 pounds! Give it a shot and I'm sure (I'm praying) you'll see progress! I'll see you here again soon, and we'll compare notes.
God bless you!!!

I find overweight people often don't exercise because it's "too hard". Well think of it like this. The amount of time you spend each week exercising takes less effort then the effort that's needed to carry that extra weight around everyday.

Just a little food for thought.

every time i feel like quitting or think its too hard i think of all the people ive seen with fantastic bodies ( and female) and think to myself "they can do it, so i can do it!" it is possible its jst not easy! but how boring would life be if everything was easily attainable?

I just take a ride down to local grocery store or Wal-Mart and watch all the people fight over the battery operated scooters filled with garbage they shouldn't be eating in the first place. Sad really....

I have a routine to go to the gym before work. It's just part of waking up and morning tasks. Takes away the need to stay motivated.

How I feel when I am in shape. I also look at all the health problems caused by being out of shape and over weight and don't want to be there. It gets easier the more you loose and the more in shape you are. Just keep working at it.
