Weights Before Cardio or After?

Post by gwenabe05 »

Hey I have a question.
Would I burn more fat and calories if I did weight training before I do cardio, or should I do it after cardio? Or does it even matter really?

For cardio, I usually do about 4 miles on the tredmill (about 35 mins) and then just a few weights afterwards.
I'm going to Maui at the end of the month and I want to look top notch.

Thanks!

do cardio in morn before breakfast but after a small protein only meal and wts in evening. Cardio should be intervals (30secs slow, 30secs fast etc) x 10 - 15mins depending on hard interval times with 1 - 2 sprint sessions a week as well 5 - 10 x 50 - 100 meters depending on how far you can hold within 90% of full pace. For wts use heavy compound lifts with 30secs rest

You would benefit more if you found a way of combining strength with cardio training techniques....as i have said a number of times already on here. But to be honest if you prefer treadmill running and doing weights id suggest continue doing cardio first but have no rest time to do your weights...it will be harder but you will benefit if you dive straight into weights with no rest after cardio.

Always do cardio after weights! Cardio before will burn up your glycogen and you'll have nothing to lift with.

I remember reading that light cardio before weight lifting is beneficial because your muscles will be warmed up adequately. But remember to clean up after running and lifting weights, as you will be sweaty.

You get your heart rate up and warm up your whole body by jogging.

you still want to warm up the motor units and machanics of the lift though...most do 5mins on a treadmill (which by the way will get the heart rate up but won't warm the pecs up for heavy pressing) and then go straight into their 1st of heavy benches
