Tendonitis

Post by racer501 »

Not sure if i spelled that right but i went to the doctor about a pain in shoulders that i figured were caused by two previous accidents one falling off a snowmobile and hitting a frozen snow drift and the other getting pulled into a raft from white water rafting and arm hitting the edge of the tube and chest hitting the bottom of the raft .... needless to say had the doc check it out and he said i now have biceptual tendonitis and i'm supposed to go and take 4 aleve 4 times a day and try not to use biceps as much as possible i was wondering if any one really knows anything else that could help with it at all.....

It depends. Sometimes the RICE method will work, Rest, Ice, (3x daily minutes a time approx), Compression, Elevation.

Tendonitis is sometimes treated with NSAIDS, which I'm pretty sure the Alieve is, and sometimes with Cortisone shots.

In your case I'd stick to what you've been told to do, and see if it helps. Don't try anything else.

Actually Cortisone shots are used for things like Carpal Tunnel, but somethimes other forms of Tendonitis like Trigger Finger, not always just for more severe situations. They are sometimes used when things like RICE method or NSAIDS fail to work too well, as the levels of inflammation can probably differ in severity, from one flare up to the next.

I'm not disagreeing with you on this next point, but I'd be a little concerned about the Icing 7-8 times a day. I think personally I'd be more inclined to plump for a 3-4 times a day strategy, just because 7-8 times a day might be difficult to do, or possibly a little too much, but yeah I concur about the 15 minute time frame at any one time.
