Need help fast

Post by mbarrels »

Hello. I have been in a weight loss bet(since New Years) to see who can lose 40lbs first. We gave each other a year to lose. I've lost 20lbs by not doing really anything different but try to watch what I eat a bit more. With our last weigh in friend has only 13lbs to lose and I have 20lbs. I'm 158lbs, 5'5" and would like to be 137lbs. He has at least another 30 lbs to lose on top of the 13 so it will be very possible for him to be down the 40 by next month(our next weigh in). question is: is it possible for me to lose last 20 in the next month? HOw would I go about it? I haven't been working out much in the last while so I can definately increase workouts. What is the best combination to lose fast but safely? Thanks.

Ps..if I win he has to wash truck at a location of choice in a speedo and if he wins I have to sing jingle bells live on tv at the Christmas telethon in a santa's helper hat. I don't sing and have stage fright...help!

hmm, perhaps by not helping we would get to see your first tv viewing. That may be worth it for us..... :)

OK jokes over, lol.

Well, first go to diet and nutrition forum and read "read this first before posting" it will help you clean your diet up more.

Secondly, women tend to burn fat and grow muscle almost simultaniously in the beginning so a weight bet was not the best choice with a and a scale.

I recommend heavy weights thrice a week with compound exercises, ie. mon, wed, fri. Squats, bench press, bent over rows, military press, deadlifts and chin ups. Stretch.

2 other days a week, run sprints. 1 minute hard, 2 minutes light 5x up to 10x followed by a 15 minute steady paced walk where you can talk but not sing (I know, you already said you couldn't lol but I mean because of breathing not talent). Stretch!

1 day a week try for 30-60 minutes steady paced cardio, ie. bike, elyptical, treadmill, stepper, jog, swim, etc. Get your heart rate up! Stretch.

1 day rest.

Don't freak about the weights being heavy, you have a low testosterone level because you're female, and no drugs and suppliments so you won't she hulk! Heavy weights burn more calories and make your muscles grow so they can burn more calories evan while you rest.

I strongly recommend you keep this up even if you lose so that you will at least look terrific while you sing.

Best of luck to you and remember, the faster you lose it the faster you put it back on, steady off stays off easier. Be safe, be healthy and good luck.

Cheers

Thanks for the advice....and humor! lol. I'll check up on the diet info to get started. It was rather dumb of me to wait to the nineth hour to get started. At least I enjoy the weight lifting part. I'll let you know how it all works out. :D

Be aware that losing that muich in a month, is not ideal. The body might sacrifice muscle as well. You're going to have be realistic and expect that 8-10 is a better goal for you, so you're doing it right, because the most Fat anyone an lose is about 4lbs a week, and that's probably women of 300lbs plus.

A nice round 10 would be healthy for you. It's not necessarily ideal, but for the reality of things, your body is more important than your singing prowess. Even if you taking the right approach to weight loss, instead of accellerated weight loss that isn't as healthy as it could be.

Whatever happens good luck, and try not to worry about things okay :).

All I'll say is I know what I know. Which sometimes does get expanded on in certain ways. Though I'm not some kind of all knowing Oracle. Just to point that out :).

update

Well guys, here's the latest. The bet is still on as neither one of us has lost that last bit. I've lost 6 lbs but have gone down 4 inches in waist and arms are toning nicely. I go to the gym at least 3 times a week and am upping that to 5 now. I've got 15lbs to go and he's got 10-12lbs depending on the day. lol. It's not showing on the scale but in clothing so that's great in a way. I'm starting each workout with a 1 mile jog(10 min) to warm up. I then do 20-30 minutes on the bike for another 3-5miles depending. Then I am doing weights by higher weights, 3 sets and 10-12 reps. I alternate different muscle groups with abs being each time. I need to focus now on the glute, hip, stomach area. legs are coming along nicely as well as arms. I LOVE weights...running(lol..ok...jogging) is growing on me now. Any suggestions to target that area? I really would like to win the bet still but have doubts by how it's going with not so much weight loss but instead inches.

chicks will gain muscle and lose fat at the same time intitially which is why you've changed but the scale hasn;t

for glutes/hips do a bucket load of lunges, ecspecially reverse lunges and normal lunges with your front foot on a low step getting your trailing leg knee down to the floor

losing stomach is mostly from food and an accumulation of leg, chest and back exercises, not stomach exercises
