Footwork
I want to be able to have good footwork and quickness, like a running-back on a football team, able to accelerate rapidly and have a lot of control in small areas. Anyone know any good footwork drills that would help me improve this? Speed from running in a strait line is no problem for me, its just being quick and controled in small areas. Thanks.
Re: Footwork
i had the same problem last season and did a lot of research and practice in to it.
i found the best things were :
agility/fast-foot ladders
plyometrics and
agility courses such as the 'illinois' course

Hi there - I trained with Glasgow Rangers Football Youth (Soccer) team during the summer and obviously soccer players need fast footwork - in terms of increasing speed the best way is to :
*Set up a couple of cones about 7/8 feet apart
*Sprint at full pace between the two cones turning quickly
*Go from cone to cone around 10-20 times
Once you start getting confident in this start making it more complex by doing small steps (as if in a speedladder) a foot before you arrive at each cone between sprints - this WILL make you faster

So did you get selected, or will it be something like an £80 part-time contract, at a club like Elgin City, Albion Rovers etc etc, until you're 20, 21 and move up a division or two?
P.S. don't take that as a snipe, I'm not having a go at you fella, just curious

One good agility exercise is to place 2 lines parallel to each other roughly 10-15 feet apart. Place a marker directly between the two and that will be your starting point. Stand in an athletic stance thats parallel to the two lines on either side of you. You'll run to the left first and touch the line on your left with your left hand. Then you'll turn back and sprint to the opposing line thats to the right of your original position in the middle and you'll touch that with your right hand. Turn back around and sprint to the opposingline. Try having someone time you so you can improve. If you don't understand I'll try to make it simpler
