Tennis elbow

Post by edozal2002 »

I've been lifting weights on and off for a few years. Lately I started getting serious, and was doing great. But lately I've developed a "tennis elbow" pain on right elbow that won't go away. Once I start lifting it doesn't hurt, but later on it really does. I stopped training for two weeks and it felt ok. But once I started again it came back. Any Ideas, or should I just go visit doctor.

I did this last October and it still hurts, Take your fish oil, it helps. Don't see a doctor, go to a ART specialist or someone with experience in sports injuries. There are a few links on the web for corrective exercises:

That is one of them.
I worked around the injury and it is about 95% now. Don't do things that aggravate the injury, and use ice and heat for pain relief. And get some ART therapy. Doctors tend to recommend steroid injections and/or surgery.

Thanks for the link DianaB, the exercises look simple enought and very detailed, I will give it a try before going to doctor.

you can't treat something if you don't what know what the problem is, doctor/physio/chiro/ART practictionor or someone needs to look at it first

Definitely use Ice and Compression techniques perhaps, to encourage healing.

How do you know that it's tennis elbow? Just cause it's outside of your elbow? It can be something else.

Good point, although Bursitis is caused by an Inflammatory response. Though T E, is just a type of Bursitis.

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago with pain in left elbow. I started pushing heavier weights. I decreased weight and invested in a neoprene elbow wrap and took Advil for a few days. The pain left but now I still use the elbow wrap whenever I lift and it works well. I gradually worked up to the weight I was at with no elbow pain.

I was diagnosed by a Dr. with tennis elbow. It never hurt when I worked out but when I was resting it throbbed unbearably. It hurt so bad I had to go to the Dr.

One cortisone shot, 6 months of not working out, endless ice bags, numerous IBprofion, 1 physical therapy session and an elbow wrap and I am back. No problems in the 8 months I have been back working out.

Tennis elbow is debilitating to a weight lifter. Take care of it early or expect it to linger and play havoc with your program.
