Cottage Cheese and Salad Diet
Hi im a 18yr old and i weigh about 340 i wanna start a diet of just cottage cheese and salad is that a good diet to lose about 100 pounds plus i will be doing sit ups and riding a exercise bike please help me thanks
Hi there,
I'd advise against any kind of extreme diet b/c the most important thing is you being able to keep up a lifestyle change for longterm sucess...have you ever visited Fitday.com? It's so great. You can create a calorie journal there for free, and they have most foods listed there. That way you can be sure of what your caloric intake is every day.
Fun fact to keep in mind--one pound of fat = 3500 calories. So, I'd take a couple days of recording what you eat, so you can see what your normal calorie intake is and then reduce it a bit (nothing too extreme) and add in exercise. For example, if you were to eat 250 cals less a day (as in a 20 oz regular soda reduction), and burn 250 calories running or walking 2 and 1/2 miles or on an elliptical trainer for half an hour or so, that'd be 500 cals you saved that day. If you do this every day, that's 3500 cals a week, or you would lose a pound per week that you would lose if you just did this minimal amount of work. Work a little harder and you can lose 2 or 3 pounds a week--but be safe about it!
I've always found the best way to lose and keep it off is to follow a pattern like this, so that you are not deprivation dieting, you are not cutting out your fav foods, but you are cutting out what calories are not necessary. A simple change as in substituting diet coke for regular and 20-40 mins of exercise a day can yield great long lasting results. Sure, someting like eating only cottage cheese and salad will make you lose more quickly, but a small lifestyle change like this can produce lifelong lasting results, and if you were to go back to your normal diet after the cottage cheese diet, you'd prob gain again.
Hope that helps--I know it's long, but I hate to see people deprive themselves.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with Sweetpea and say that it's better to make a drastic change in your diet than it is to "taper" it, so to speak. Yes, it takes more self-discipline to maintain, but it's also less frustrating. Why you torture yourself by changing your diet just enough so that you start having cravings but not enough to get results quickly? I say if you're not going to eat RIGHT, just eat however and whateve you want. But if you want to see results, start following a strict diet immediately. Just go cold turkey!
Hi georgiaboy05
Remember that if you starve yourself or don't gave your system all the nutriments you need you will go back just were you were! Its better to eat well and different food so that you don't get borred with what you eat!
I believe that eating salad and cottage cheeze for 2 weeks you will get really sick of it...
Don't forget to do your exercise with it...!
You are still young and your body still burn fat at 100 % so you can do it!!!
