How much is "2 tons of water"? Water is definitely good for you but you don't want to drink too much. I'm guessing if youre not feeling well as the result of drinking all that water you drank too much. When you drink too much water you can experience water intoxication and hyponatremia. Basically, drinking too much water delutes your body of necessary electrolytes and sodium. You're probably feeling like you've gained weight because your body is holding on to alot of that water... I wouldn't worry about the weight gain, you'll pee/sweat it out throughout the day and get back to normal.
I've always been told to drink 8-12 8 ounce glasses per day (more if you're excessively hot or if youre sweating a lot). I think I usually drink around 150 ounces. You can also tell if youre drinking enough by how your urine looks... should be pretty clear. If its real yellow you need to increase your fluid intake.
I hope this helps. :)

only in extreme over consulmtion cases will you store water from drinking water...in most cases yuo store water becaude yuor water intake is too little do the body holds onto it for later...hormones can play a part in water storage as well though

Hmmm... If he drank ALOT of water over the course of the day wouldn't it show up on the scale? Not necessarily as fat or muscle weight (obviously) but just water weight? I know that when I weigh myself before and after drinking a lot of water... or before and after a really intense workout... I'll notice a slight difference in weight. I think if he drank a significant amount of water during the day then jumped on the scale he could quite possibly weight a few more pounds due to all of the water in his system.... maybe I'm wrong though?
He would, until he urninated it out of his system.
Drink tonnes of Water is not a tip, it's vague.
You can actually achieve around 2-2.5 litres of water a day from food, as the Americans deduced this in the 50's, but it got confused as 2lt's of drinking water to replace lost body fluids.
However extra water can help, and will keep you hydrated, but you don't need shed loads of the stuff.
You could also if you drink too much, possibly cause something called Edema, which is swelling around the Ankles and Legs, possibly the Hands too, from excess body fluids, and in that case you'd end up having to be given diuretics, or a low Salt diet, until you were sorted out.
