Diet for Weight Gain & Losing Stomach Fat
I have excess stomach fat (BEER GUT!), but I want to know if there i s a special diet i can get on to gain muscle mass, as well as, losing that beer gut. Thanks if anyone can help!
Well, if the gut comes from beer, lay off the beer. Be sure to eat a very clean diet as well, with carbs mainly coming from green veggies. Be very cheap on eating grains and starches, have them only PWO, and limit them. That means no breads, rice, potatoes or pasta in particular.
You may have an insulin intolerance. Supplementing with fish oil caps will help. Do you carry much fat on the subscapular area? This is a better indicator of insulin resistance, where fat on the stomach area is more of an indication of poor diet.

Not always though, it could be the result of increased Cortisol production, which means he may have a stressful existance, or certain things that often stress him out.DianaB wrote:where fat on the stomach area is more of an indication of poor diet.
Typical stuff, like job, money worries etc etc.
If you have Insulin issues, then Yes, Carbs should be Green Veggies, or things like Green Beans,. Tomatos, Mushrooms, Soybeans etc etc, things that have a low GI, and therefore will yield a low .
If you want starchy or Whole-grain Carbs, after workouts as suggested is good, or in the morning is fine. Don't forget, Whole-grains are good for things like B and Iron Fortification in particular, and sone like Oats and Barley, and to a lesser extent Wheat and Rye, are sources of Beta-Glucans, and can be good for Heart health.
The reasons whole-grains, grains and higher GI things are better reserved, and portions moderated after workouts and at Breakfast time, is that Bloodsugar is lower, so a moderate or slightly high , (Bloodsugar increase), should be less impacting than normal, as you will be spiking from a lower Bloodsugar level.
