Sprinting after

Post by (:chloe:) »

Hi
I'm 16 & have had eating disorders for nearly 6 years. I am heavily into running & fitness & I have a personal trainer who is helping me build myself back up again. I run long distance now but before EDs I used to be a really fast sprinter, but I really can't sprint at the mo!
Does anyone have any tips on how to get sprinting back? & do you think I will be able to get it bck after all that time?? Thanks.

Yes.

You might need to incoporate Sprints, or things like that, and work more on building the muscles up, and changing some of the Cardio you do, to more explosive types, and more short distance orientated.

There's two things I can see, that might affect your sprinting right now.

1. Long distance running burning some of your muscle off, relative to dietry intake of course.

2. Increased usage of Slow Twitch Muscle fibres, leading to a change in stimulus from less Fast Twitch, and more Slow Twitch recruitment, and making the Fast Twitch explosive Fibres, less atuned or deconditioned to the task of sprinting.

These are possibiliites though, not things I can say for sure.

i wouldnl't have you doing long distance running, we'd be trying to build up muscle and body mass, not burn it i'd assume

sprints are great and are anabolic so they can actually increase wt if cal's are enough

i'd also be trying to get you as strong as you can be

try out with 5 x 50m with full rest and see how you go

I didn't realise that running long-distance could be affecting sprinting ability! Thanks for your advice, will try more sprinting rep.s & cut down on long distance.
