Advice for weight loss...

Post by Dave33 »

Guys,

Let me give you some background. I am 33, 6' 3" heavy bone mass and working at losing weight. Last year I weight 376 lbs, and was disgusted with myself. I met someone who lost 150 lbs and that really encouraged me. As of March 8, I am down 31 lbs. This is what I am doing can I get insight please?

Joined Weightwathcers just to weigh msyelf.

Limit myself to 1800 caleries a day.

Journal and reliigously track everything consumed.

Do cardio 3 to 4 times a week. Rotating between treadmill and swimming.

No fast food, but allowing myself to have an occasional treat provided I do not go over the caleries.

ultimate goal is to get to 185-200. I am trying to figure out the best way to get there. I want it to be safe, slow, but effective. At the same time I want to avoid any excess skin from hanging, The guy that I know lost too much weight too quikcly and has skin hanging. I am hoping that regular swimming will help out with this.

I've thought about exercise supplements but want to be very careful. I am an asthmatic and occasionally I've read some FDA concerns about some supplements.

What advice can you offer? Is it reasonable to lose 160 lbs over a 2/3 year period? What's safe and doable?

Thanks

Dave

- good move with the WW to keep you accountable if nothing else
- the whole point of the WW system is for you to be eating as much food as you can but staying within your point range so obvoiusly if you have half a choc cake you've blown most of your points in 1 sitting but you should be eating a shit load of veggies and salad as they yeild no points...fruit and solid protein should also be staples...that being said, the points work on fat content which is fine but i'd be more worried about the carb content of foods and those low in fat often are high in carbs so your not really changing your behaviour which is what's most important
- as staed above you should be aiming for most calories you can staying within your points number...1800 cal's is far too low for you to even lay on the couch all day with, let alone adding exercise in...you need closee to 2800 - 3000/day...cutting too low will only have you gain fat
- no wt training? it's 10 x better than cardio for wt loss
- sometimes there's nothing you can do about the skin no matter how slow you lose wt
- no supp's required...you only need these once you've exhausted all other avenues
- you can easily lose 160pds in 2 - 3yrs...aim for 2pds a week and it will take less than that and you'll lose more some weeks

6 meals a day every 2.5-3 hours

Calories around 2,500

Weights 3-4 times a week. Cardio 2x a week

Anything else is more specific, and we'd need your actual meal times and meal types, to see what's what.
