Home Gyms

Post by nymickey »

I would like to purchase an inexpensive home gym to get in shape and son would like to use it for body sculpting. I'm gonna try the used market, since I know that son goes through phases and I travel a lot.

Can anyone recommend some brands and models? Is Marcy CR4 Corner Gym a good one? or ... Weider Pro 9635 Home Gym Set ... or ... BMI 9800 ...

Can anyone recommend a good video that will show me the proper techniques in using a home gym ?

Also, what should I look for - pec deck, seated upright chest press, all types of leg exercises, lat pulldown, bicep curls, lat tower, leg developer, rowing seat, high and low pulleys.

Thanks ... any and all advice appreciated !!!

Don't buy home gyms, many of them are crap, and restrict your movement on some exercises.

This is the prescribed stuff I'd recommend.

1 Long Bar and Discs.

2 smaller bars for Dumbbell style work

1 Bench, Inclined type if possible, to give Chest work variation.

1 Squat Rack.

Other things you could possibly buy include rubber Bands and a Swiss ball.

Don'y buy Dumbbells they're messier to store, costlier still if you buy Dumbbell trees, and more expensive to upgrade the heavier they become, compared to a few discs to upgrade a Bar system.

For discs, go for something like this.

4x 1kg, (2.2lb)

4 x 2kg (4.4lb)

4 x 5kg (11lb)

2x 10kg (44 lb) for your Long Bar only. He won't be using these on smaller Dumbbell style Bars, to start off with, though should he progress, in a few months, you could get another 2 for certain small bar exercises.

This should get you well on the way.

completely and utterly agree with the free weight system laid out here. Maybe even get one of them Pull Up bars that fit into your doorway, and can be clipped in and out when in and out of use.

Don't know anything about those models. I did post a review on a Bowflex Blaze here.

I happened to stumble upon a website that reviews exercise equipment. Check it out
