tanning
why do so many people feel the need to get a really bad tan after they've lost alot of wait or reached their goals?
alot of people change from a normal skin tone to a weird orange lol
if you have a beach body why not tan on the beach?.. ok if you look very, very pale.... but you know what i mean

well generally if you want to look "better" than itsz better to get rid of the paleness. plus, after losing alot of weight, people gain some self confidence and do their best to look better for photos or something IE: tanning
some people dont naturally tan as well too so going to a tanning bed could be easier, tho im not sure its healthy at all.

Tanning on sunbeds isn't healthy. Many people use nothing apart from some eye protection goggles, not even some basic factor cream, meaning they are exposing their skin to strong emissions.
THe limit is roughly 20 sessions a year for most people, but some people are foolish, and believe if they are going on holiday, they should get in 3-4 sessions in the two weeks prior to going. Well if you follow the logic, 20 sessions in one year as an upper limit, means you wouldnt' have 3 sessions every 2 weeks, you'd have one session roughly every 18 days, or 2.5 weeks approx.
Too many people become Tannorexics, and they Tan excessively, and the bottom line here is, sunbeds are a one wau ticket to Skin Cancer.
People under 16 shouldn't use them, and some places let people as young as 13 and 14 in, and frankly tanning on beds and booths to way of thinking is stupid, unhealthy, and pointless, especially when you can buy things like home spraying kits, if you really, really feel the need to look russet coloured, and personally I couldn't give a toss, about having a tan.
If you beleive in the person you are, you don't need to mask your outer personality with a brown or orange veneer, the people who respect you for being you are the ones that matter, and the ones who don't or can't can get bent.
No point wasting money to look artificial in that way, you could end up unhealthy, just so you could feel a bit better about yourself, but you won't when you get bad test results at the hospital, in 15-30 years time.

I don't understand tanning. I have a friend and she tans all the time and her skin is naturally a little tan but whenever she gets a tan she turns orange and it looks bad but she thinks it looks good so whatever.
I don't ever tan but skin isn't that pale I think I am naturally a little tan because I have some Czechloslavakian in me.

Your friend is potentially a Tanorrexic, and could be heading for a one way ticket to Skin Cancer. Some people when their skin is exposed to an ultraviolet tube, can show up brown or dark spots. That's the skin damage being revealed, because you can't normally see things like that, with the naked eye.

Well it's good you're trying to make her see her problem. You have to if possible make her really see it though, without looking like some kind of knark, that's in her face all the time.
Some people find it difficult to be told, like your concern overrides their wants, and therefore is getting in the way. You're seen as complicating their situation, not complimenting it.
I mean how many people who are 50+. like their children giving them a tough time, about a long standing heavy drink problem. They pretend the concern is unfounded, or it's not necessary, or even got cross and act like it's their life, not their childrens, they don't need telling how to live.
Fact is, many such people eventually end up, having life tell them good and proper. They then have to listen to their own bodies, when they're in a hospital on a drip with tubes in them.
The really unlucky ones don't get any second chances, their stubbornness, and stupidity kills them, and they emotionally hurt the ones they love, which is NOT their right to do. If they want to hurt themselves that's they're look out, but don't do it emotionally to those who care about them, it isn't their right to do that.
She needs to be made to question herself, as to why she wants to potentially cause something, that when it's full blown onset in some cases, can kill you.

You still need to be careful even if you tan only in the sun. I do the same but recently have found I get major freckles from it. I don't have any freckles during the winter but in the summer whoa! freckle city! Just on face but I don't like them. This summer I'm gonna be wearing hats whenever possible. tans also last all winter. I still have a tan line from last summer.

Although a nice deep tan really shows off a well muscled body, tanning is not for me. I don't want to look like a dried piece of leather when I'm older. I tan in the summer, but from doing outdoor activities and it's a gradual process, aided by lot's of sunscreen. I never just lay in the sun and bake.
Taking care of your skin goes a long way in looking good when you get older.

Tanning well is not the same as overtanning on beds and booths necessarily, if its's sun related. Likelihood is you possess a highler level of Melatonin than some. Some people have almost none, and therefore really need to use high Factor Creams or SB's, as they can burn easily.
Even white Cats, can be prone to getting Skin Cancer on the Ears, if you don't give then Creams or blockers on those areas, (possibly because the Ears might have the least concentraion of Fur), and some can have to have Plastic surgery to remove primary Cancer growths, and end up with one or both Ears slightly malformed in appearance.
If you use beds and / or booths a lot to tan, then yes you shouldn't judge others for it, but perhaps yourself, and assesss your own Skin Cancer risks.
If you just tan because of things like natural sunlight, then go ahead judge. Sun tanning is natural, tube tanning is fake.

A lot of people can't for a good part of the year because of climate. We have 6 feet of snow here so no one is tanning outside lol.Dalton85 wrote:why dont people just go outside and get a tan from the sun
im basically black during the summer from being at the beach throwing the football and swimming and stuff and it lasts me through the winter
Tanning beds are pretty scary. Skin cancer is scary. I've already had pre skin cancer. The only time I have used tanning beds is before photoshoots. I do get some color in the summer becuase I spend an enormous amount of time outside, though I try to wear sunblock. Sure a tan looks nice, but it's not worth cancer.
i love the beach and swimming, so in the summer i get sorta tanned (i always wear sunscreen anyways)...
and yeah i'm kinda on the pale side.. although i must say i've considered getting a tan from a tanning booth because I've heard it's great for hiding cellulite! it's too bad that the risks out-weigh the benefits!!!

Its currently 3 degree C outside today in the UK, and dark.Dalton85 wrote:why dont people just go outside and get a tan from the sun
You go outside if you want to - You'll get hypothermia before you'll get any sort of tan!
I was going to start own topic on Tanning, but thought I would post here as this subject seems on course to what I was going to write about.
I wondered what people do about getting a 'tan' when it is impossible to do it through the sun.
new job is on the desk of a Spa/Health club. A nice toned body and tan would look nice for this, I think.
What do people do regarding getting their tans?
I tried the 'fake tan route' a while back - Getting a colour anything other than 'orange' is tricky, I found - Also, the tan would only last a maximum of 7 days - And even with this, further problems including staining on clothes and bedsheets - And 'streaky' patchy tanned skin!
Then we have 'sun beds' and 'tanning booths' - Running the risks of cancers and premature ageing skin.
Does anyone have a solution?
skin is 'VERY' pale, and I know I look much better with a little colour.
For those of you who use sunbeds, how long do you use them for?
Is there a good 'build up' process I could go through?
Thanks for any help or replies
Chris
