crunches are the most useless exercise on the earth...

working obs can make waist bigger depending on the load used to train them...

I thought Reverse Wrist Curls held that title :?.

Surely the humble Crunch must have some redeeming features. After all if you do 300 a day, you can get a stomach like Peter Andre, if I've remembered correctly  .

Like Swanso said, oblique load plays a part in their stimulus. If you did Side Bends with no weights, maybe a couple of times a week in a Class, you wouldn't do much to them, maybe just condition them slightly, but if you weight the Bends, you could just get a bit of a Blocky waist, and Side Bends are probably I think the most commonly employed method, for Oblique training.

So I'd say you could train Obliques, but do it bodyweighted. As long as you have good development of things like Abs, Erector Spinae, Illiocostals etc etc, you'll be fine.

I know he's an Aussie, but personally I think his music sucks, and he's not much better, but that's just me.

if i punched you in the arm you'd be sore too but has it benefited you??

in a nutshell they:

don't make you stronger
don't make you bigger
cause postural problems
cause muscular imbalances
are a waste of time

Mr.swan I have read allot of your post on this site. I see regulary you post that sit-ups crunches are useless, and you post squats, sprints, as some of your keys to six pack abs, I am trying to just loose the beer and for years coaches and trainers have said to do sit-ups and now your telling me that doing sit-ups or different variety of crunches and they will not make me lose the belley. Or are you talking crunches are uselee for trying to get a six pack look? CONFUSED

mr swan...i like the sounds of that Terry

yes crunches are rubbish, i have no doubt about that...anyone who says otherwise is probably 20yrs behind in the feild...

search the exercises above and insert into your program and i'll bet you'll see some result in 2 weeks if diet is clean

maybe post current program and io can insert them for you...and food as well
