Post by dumbblonde46 »

If Im trying to gain weight by eating over calorie needs but not doing any exercise / weights will the weight i gain be purely fat or will there be some muscle gain through incidental exercise?

i would say fat...you stimulate muscle growth before it actually happens...why would you try this???

because im very underweight and was advised to gain a bit before i start doing any exercise,so i was just wondering if daily activity would contribute to muscle growth or if the gain would be all fat.

i would atr least do some squats, lunges, push ups and inverted rows to make sure anyway...you won't need a lot though maybe 2 - 3 sets of each x 12 reps or so maybe in a circuit...3 x 30mins it should take

No it won't, you will just gain fat. You need to be really challenging your muscles for them to grow. I'm not sure why that was recommended to you. If you are underweight I can understand avoiding cardio until you gain some, but weight training will only help so that you can put on some healthy muscle mass.

you need to do some type of resistance training. and really watch what you eat. And eat often!

Gaining healthy weight is very difficult and I sure wish I knew all the answers..but i can tell you this.....i have weighed the same thing for many years....under 100lbs. It was not until ......I put the junk food down, starting eating 5-6 good healthy meals a day, and exercising 6 days a week. 3 days on weights and 3 on cardio (yes cardio.......after years of just eating to maintain or gian...i do have a nice bit of flab i'm working on)....that is when I started gaining..and keeping it on(for the most part). It has been so slow.

point is...please please start working out a little. Body weight stuff would be great to start. You dont want to start putting fat on that you will one day have to work your butt off to take off.
