Don't Deadlift if you have a back problem.

Have you received or receive any physio or medical attention, for this Back problem?

Well in that case then, I would say for lower Back, do do some Deadlifting, but you've got to take it light. Go for about 10-12 reps, and take it slowly. Don't be keen to crank up the weight unless you're 100% sure you're capable.

As for things like Lats, I would suggest something like Cable / Pully Rows, where you're keeping the Back straight, not something like Bent over Barbells, where you keep it angled.

If you Deadlift, don't use a Belt, unless you feel you need to.

i wouldn't just not do deadlifts, i love them and they'll strengthen your back but it depends what range of motion or movement patterns hurt your back...if deads don't hurt then i can't see why you couldn't do them
