Im looking to find out more about Jumping Rope. does anyone have any exercise routines or maybe a good way to go about getting a more intense work out from a jump rope. Also whats a good time frame of jumping, ive noticed that if i jump any longer than about 15-20 mins, lower leg muscles start to ache. Also i read that jump rope is one of the best HIIT, is that true?

Jump rope
Yes, jump ropes can be quite intense, but the rope itself needs to be very fast. Just don't get a weighted rope as they are quite slow and are, strength-wise, questionable at best. Go with a light skipping rope such as
I'd recommend these two ropes:

http://www.buyjumpropes.net/triple_rope_1.html
They are light and fast (you can even do triple unders). You may also get one of buddy lee's jump ropes, but they are quite expensive.
Jump ropes are great to combine in a circuit. If you jump rope for active recovery, you are not jumping hard enough, and not getting the most out of your rope. Besides, if you jump for a long time, your calves start to ache, so I question the "recovery" part about skipping ropes.
Two videos that prove how intense jump ropes can be if the skill is properly developed:
