Mix it up for fun

Post by DJ_FoRbY »

Hiya, no matter the amount of replies im regularly going to pass on good advice or talk to myself! thankyou

Cardiovascular exercise - Anything with is a continual motion of movement which raises the heartrate and is generally more toning than testing.

Its the fun stress-relieving bit which we all love once we get going!!
Grab your towel, and water bottle, hop on a bike and have fun pedalling....that simple!

To mix it up try: 1000m on a bike, 750m on a jogger, then 250m rowing
all at steady pace.

If your going to do any weight/resistance training do that first then cardio after.

After training a few stretches, a walk and an appropriate meal will make it all the more enjoyable.

Variety = smiley ;)

Peace

bear in mind I am new to this but this is schedule now:

Monday Curves/cardio and resistance/ 30 minutes AM
Walking 20 minutes PM

Tuesday Strength Training 20 minutes ( 3 lb weights) PM

Wednesday Walking 20 minutes PM

Thursday Curves 30 minutes AM
Strength Training 20 minutes PM

Friday Walking 20 minutes PM

Saturday Curves 30 minutes AM

Sunday 2 mile walk

I also add about 20-30 minutes of walking during the day, at work, grocery store, housecleaning.

Beginning in April I will be adding Water Aerobics on Tuesday and Thursday night, 60 minutes. Also I will be increasing walk time to 25 minutes and Sunday walk to 3 miles.

Time wise I can't really do much more than this but do you think I would do better scheduling differently.? For example you said strength training was better done before cardio.
What do you think?

PS I am 55 years old and was pretty much a couch potato until February.

Cardio crosstraining is great because it adds variety which keeps both the routine exciting but also throws a curve to your body's natural tendency to get used to burning calories from one specific cardio exercise. Make sure to switch between exercises very quickly and keep your sweat and heart rate up. A great sample cardio crosstraining routine would be:

15 Minutes - Jogging on Treadmill
15 Minutes - Elliptical Machine
15 Minutes - Spinning on Stationary Bike

Always train with weights before cardio because you want to use any and all carbs for energy throughout your strength/weight training routine. Once the glycogen has been tapped with weights, move into your cardio routine and start burning your stored reserves.

Best of luck!

Hello :D ... I am new in this website, I love sites like this, help me to keep up with lifestyle, which is of course, FITNESS :o ... About cardio, I like to do running first thing in the morning, for an hour or two, depending if I want to do fast or slow, fast is short time, slow is longer time, later on the day, I do cardio again, stepping with videos I own, it is only for fun, I like the challenge, it is like double dodge. Eating healthy is important to support this type of activities, I also bike, if I need to commute, which is almost every day, and do weights twice a week. peace

Mix it up - Interval Training

Post by theguru »

To really keep you motivated with your CV, try "Interval Training".

Especially if you dont like spending time on the CV machines. Interval training is far more effective at increasing your lactate threshold (fitness) than LSD (Long, Slow, Dull :-) )

For example instead of spending 35 minutes in the treadmill. Split it into 2 15 minutes rounds on a rower then treadmil (15 min each that is). Push yourself really hard (100% MHR) for 1 minute then slow down (60% MHR) for 1 minute, and repeat until done.

Brilliant workout!!!!
