Re: bike tours, 5k's and such
thanks on the job front. i do a training tomorrow and then i am able to start although i'm not sure if i can get on the schedule soon or wait a week.
do you think i have enough time to train for an ironman? Boy do i wish i would have done it back when i was in good shape.
i need to lose weight too so that is the tricky part.. and eating and pcos and insulin resistance.
It's not a bad song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gydcChFnzQ I showed it to them a long time ago and had forgot about the song actually. i did take offense a little bit. I think because i have had guests in the house for 2 weeks! and i have really been trying to get along and it hurt a bit but otherwise it's okay.
i go in moods of music. growing up i liked a lot of grunge. But i am going away from that. When i workout i definitely like uplifiting motivational songs.
but it's okay. i just asked why they were telling me that. They are 30 years older than me. and not around me a lot and still think of me as young.

Re: bike tours, 5k's and such
I"m debating about signing up for a sprint tri in a month. i can do the swim (500 yards) and bike (15 miles) and the 5k i could start training now and run/walk it. they say it's a run/walk so running it is not necessary. the hardest part is what to wear! and that actually will be the deciding factor if i do it if i can find something i like that isn't a lot of money. it's a beginning triathlon so i won't feel too intimidated.
I'm going to do some group open swims starting this week. it's a class that meets like 5 times and is only 25 dollars.
i struggle being lonely. sometimes for people own age that i have things in common with. i have a unhealthy habit or too that i deal with too. I don't need or want a lot of people in life. just a few that i feel a connection with though. with girl gone although it does give me a lot more free time i miss her too.
I'm just trying to stay busy and stay positive though with triathlon and weight loss goals and music and language goals.
new job if i like it and it works out should get me more being social too.

An Ironman in November of 2018 is an achievable goal, Bekah. Starting with a sprint tri is a great idea.
As far as weight loss, I'd suggest trying carb cycling, keeping your carbs low on days when you aren't training hard , and higher on heavy workout days. Lowering carb intake seems to be the most common recommendation for PCOS, to help with insulin resistance.
Hugs on missing your pup.
I will check out the song link!

I didn't hear anything objectionable--I thought you were talking about some kind of heavy metal or emo!

Re: bike tours, 5k's and such
I'm not going to do the sprint tri for 2 reasons. One i work weekends now long hours on the weekend unless i take off which i could of course but the registration fee was 100 dollars. and to take off work and pay the registration fee for something i already know i can basically do i'm not going to do it.
There is a non profit organization locally that represents women and minorities. they have a lot of low cost or free classes for triathlon training. I'm really excited about it and i plan on taking full advantage of it over the next year.
They also have local coaches if i wanted to go that route although i would rather not since i can't afford it.
Thanks Mo for the link on PCOS. very informative and helpful. I'm going to try and incorporate stuff they say slowly. Right now it will just be lowering sugar and carb intake and finishing up the rest of shakeology that's leftover since it has a lot of nutrition in there and it is a supplement anyways.
i start job next weekend. i plan on working long hours on the weekends. Someone said they really loved it and it was fun so hopefully i feel the same way. so i can't workout much on the weekends but will have more hours during the week.
next bike tour and last one i think of the year is in September. The same weekend of the Wisconsin Ironman. So i plan on biking on Saturday and
driving to Madison to watch it and drive home the same day on Sunday. i am taking that weekend off work. I don't know what mileage i will do that day. the have 45, 60 or 100.
mo do you have any suggestions for working out with pcos and trying to lose weight and build endurance? Thanks for suggesting the carb cycling. i think boss once suggested to a triathlete to eat like 40, 40 , 30 on long endurance days and strength days 30% carbs so i'm going to log calories and carbs and go for your suggestion.
The weight loss really has been slow moving. and the last few weeks non existent. But if i lower the sugar and carb intake i hope that will help.
Off to go biking.
Biking and interval hill walking on the TM so far is what has been the most helpful for me for losing weight exercise wise. i still swim too but i did cancel that swim class and got reimbursed and will retake it. It was just hard with company and the holiday this july.. It's offered all the time so i will retake it. I WANT to take it.

i biked 19 miles yesterday and swam laps and did 20 minutes of incline intervals today on the TM. i'm down 19 pounds. NOt a heck of a lot but considering the last 3 weeks in July i didn't work out much it's not bad. i'm going to watch diet a lot more closely now with macros and calories because of the pcos, etc. i have an excel spreadsheet for workouts and diet so i might not post as often but i will come back.

Re: bike tours, 5k's and such
goal might be a half ironman next year. see what happens. i just don't know mainly about the running and weight loss. the half is a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and a half marathon. versus a 2.4 miles swim, 112 mile bike ride and a marathon. Either way for a half or a full I would like to do it in the fall.

Re: bike tours, 5k's and such
swam 1025 yards this morning.. 41 lengths. i took breaks though and some laps were with a kickboard practicing kick for the freestyle and also breast stroke. an ironman swim is over 4,000 yards and with a current possibly and many other swimmers and not taking breaks.. the time limit also is 2 hours and 20 minutes. i got a long way to go. ha ha
i signed up for a training program to train for a century. it's free. i will do it on all flat ground. no hills for now. i want to wait till i lose more weight for hills. But it's 8 weeks long. it's 7 weeks till next and last bike tour. the tour would definitely be hilly though. but it's something to get in shape for. i think it's about 3 times a week training.
I'm going to put off weights till fall. I am kind of bulky naturally. So i definitely don't need to gain muscle. I see a lot of body builder women but a lot of them are naturally pretty slim starting out. the ballerina misty copeland has a beautiful shape and rather muscular for a ballet dancer and she says she doesn't lift weights at all because she builds too easily. I do want to do weights because i don't want extra skin or to lose muscle but just maintain what i got. i also want to enjoy being outdoors while i can with warm weather.. I can honestly say i really like biking and swimming and i use to love running and think i will again as well as long as feet hold up.

Re: bike tours, 5k's and such
down 19.6 today.
on the schedule today is:
bike - 10 miles. i am going to try HITT for until i get tired and than ride the rest of the 10 miles easy pace.
swim - working on breathing and kick and the breast stroke mainly. Going to hold off on swimming to a mile for a few weeks because i want to work on form and breathing. i always breathed on one side and i trying to breath on both sides. I think it's 3 count breathing and get more comfortable swimming on weakest side. To swim to a mile training program you should be able to swim nonstop or mainly nonstop for 400 yards and i don't think i can do that just yet with just the freestyle.
i'm doing biking first because the pool is busy in the morning. i also have a job interview tomorrow. It would be day time hours again which i prefer.

Re: bike tours, 5k's and such
biked 11 miles. i did mostly easy. i bike 11 miles and hour. not great. ja ja (that's ha ha in espanol)
but i was doing 10 when i first started and again i'm carrying extra weight not using toe clips and i use a hybrid bike too.
swam today too. too many dang people in the pool. i think 3 count breathing is improving and kicking. and getting more comfortable on weak side. 48 lengths total, or 1200 yards.
the estimate is 800 to 1000 calories burned today but who knows if that is true.
