True. A bog standard diet, even one not too great with only 3 meals a day, and maybe only 60g Protein a day, could initially provide some strength yield, as the physical processes I.E. Microtears, Pumps etc etc, would then interact with nutrition, to provide some physical benefit.
Though this can only last so long, and if all you might get is 1/2" on big muscles and about 1/4" on smaller ones, then diet needs reappraising, in order to facilitate better progress.
Diet is often more the key than weights. I know from experience, and from reading other peoples experiences, it's not good stalling on gains, spending a month doing a new routine, and then another 1 or 2 routines, that after 2-3 months of no more progress, making a few diet changes, solves the problem.
Good training provides the foundatino for good physical changes, but diet builds on it.
Fact is if a 300lb person who ate like crap, started eating 6 healthy meals a day, but did no exercise, they would probably, (I think), lose more weight than doing loads of Weights, Cardio and eating the same old crap.
So diet is the slightly more productive of the two aspects, but exercise gives diet more ability to positively impact.
