Cardio for asthmatics? I can't fiqure out how to mix the two

Post by viper »

I have wanted to get into cardio more, but every time I try, I about pass out because I can't breath. asthma has been horrible ( this year especially) I take an albuterol inhaler 15 min. before the workout and the advair discus twice daily. I need some tips on what else I can do.

not sure really but would short bursts of interval training do the job say with 30secs or so sprints with 90secs or so recovery? instead of steady state stuff

I think that could work. Thanks. Any tips on how to make it through football practice though?

you'd have to confer with your coach on that and see what you can work out

weird, Viper, we have almost the same name and the same problem. I can run legs off with no problem, But lungs are the problem. I try cardio and can't handle it. Not sure why.

That's crazy and weird!!! Yeah asthma has affected me so much that I decided not to play football. Kinda sucks!!! I have been hitting the bag though. I started out 2-3 mins. maximum (because I couldn't do more).
Now I'm up to around 20 mins. It has taken me almost 3 months to be able to exercise a decent amount of time.

just another thought for you guys...maybe your work capacity is low meaning you can run at low intensities for distance but when the work gets a little harder you conk out...this is a little different to endurance though...things such as boxcing where most of your punching is at full or near full speed are good for this as well as sled drags and various gpp stuff...i posted a whole heap of these type of things somewhere if you can find it
