shaking arms

Recently when working chest/triceps towards the end of workout arms got really shaky when trying to do a dumbbell bench press. Normally when I workout muscles they get tired and I cannot lift the weights because there are too heavy. That wasn't the case this time, I seemed to be able to pick them up just fine, but when I was laying down and started to press the dumbbells upward arms started shaking. I got some lighter weights and did 3 sets, but they still had the shakes, but it was contained enough to do the full sets.

what causes the shakes? should I be worried? is it a bad or a good thing? I am in good health, and have no medical conditions.

usually shaking after workout is bad

Well a bit of shaking occasionally at the end of set is not too bad, but it could be you overworked your Triceps, bearing in mind you Chest first.

Could be you're taxing the Central Nervous System too much, which isn't good.

i'll go for CNS stimulation...your probably not advanced enough to suffer cns burn out so it won't be a problem and i would say it's a good thing as a lot of trainer's don't stimulate the CNS, only their muscles

What I mean Earthy is that some Chest work can stimulate the Triceps, so if you're doing too much Tricep work, when they may have already worked quite a bit with Chest, you could be over taxing the muscles hence the shaking sensation.

I can't say how intensely Triceps get worked when you do say a Press type Chest movement, (any exercise with Press in the name will work Triceps), but it could be that 3 sets of Pressing works out at about 1 set of regular Triceps stuff. So on that basis, a big 12 set Chest routine, would be equivalent to half a Tricep workout.

This is just a theory, I can't say 100% if it's right or not, but if you're doing Chest exercises that stimulate Trieps, you might be doing 1-2 sets too many on Triceps afterwards, not realising you worked them quite a bit with Chest, and doing that regularly has caused a CNS shaking reaction.

Hopefully that made sense, sorry for being longwinded, I didn't want to be too brief, and possibly not make enough sense.

Boss man - that makes perfect sense. Thanks for breaking it down. But the reason I chose the triceps/chest was because I heard that it's nearly impossible to work one out without working the other, so I figured I would just group those two together.

Do you have a better recommendation as in what muscle groups should I be working out at the same time?
ie:
chest/triceps
biceps/shoulders
etc....

full body 3/week

or

upper / lower split 3 - 4 week

Well you can technically work them together, and many do, but if you do choose to do that, and I'm not saying you have to or should, just perhaps allow for he Tricep work on Chest, and cut 1-2 sets of Tricep section at the end.
