Need Advice :S

So I am a 21 year old female, height 5'4, and I weigh 190 pounds... I mean I suppose to some people it may not be that much however I want to get back down to about 130-135...that was how much I weighed in high school and from what I am told that's a good healthy weight for someone like me. Anyways so today I have first walk..it was about a mile and a half I would say. I'm exhausted. father isn't very encouraging he just reminds me how I need to burn more calories then I am eating and that walking/running won't do that for me. He might be right but I want to know what other people say as well.To add insult to injury friend is telling me I need to just run and that I won't injure myself in doing so because she runs and hasn't injured herself. However mother had been exercising a few years back and ended up with her achilles heel swollen and her laying on her bed for almost a month...so I have decided to try walking for a week...doing a walk jog the next week, then doing a jog walk on the third week, and then start running on the fourth week.

Basically to sum all of this up. Can just running help me lose weight or do I need to add other steps to madness? Also should I continue with routine on easing myself into running instead of just starting off running?

Hi Katerina, good to speak with you.

In relation to easing yourself into the running, that is a sensible way to start if you're concerned, because someone else not getting injured doesn't mean you can and maybe they were lucky or maybe they might less injury prone than you, but whatever way you look at it, it still makes sense for you to ease yourself in if you have concerns.

You might want to consider weight training, as a way of also helping you to lose weight.

As for your diet, what times do you eat at and what foods do you eat at those times?

I usually eat when I get up, I'm a night owl so I tend to get up around the afternoon times, and I eat dinner at night...so usually I am eating two times a day with small things in between meals. However, I just eat what I can find in the house really...unfortunately family doesn't have a ton of money at the moment...and so it's not like we can just buy a lot of healthy things.
