I've started to work-out 3 weeks ago, and i've really seen changes throughout upper body. all i did was to work-out everyday, during the AM and PM... but a friend of told me that it was really bad because of "muscle burn".

just hopping to hear from the experts
surely it's bad , you would see changes of course during the first weeks (you are begginer) but soon you will stagnate and you find yourself in catabolique phaze , the best way to get big and to get muscle recovry is to train 4 days per week , even advanced bodybuilders train 4 days in off season period ( they train 6 days only to prepare a competition) , but the best routine is 4 days per week one time per day not the am and pm ,and think of good diet and to rest , they are the keys to build up strong body.. the way the diet counts more than training , good luck.

hi
it's same , your muscles need rest , 6 days are ok but you would not gain muscles but definition , and you may loose weights ( if you train hard ) , 6 days per week will decrease yr strenght too .
there's another choice it's to train with weights 4 days per week and the other two days use them to train yr calves , abs and obliques .
peace
