Basically to be hired for a position I've been wanting for 5 years, I need to reach these goals, and having pretty much given up on the position 3 years ago, I've lost what used to be a pretty good fitness level.
By the end of August I need to be able to do the following:
40 Sit-ups (in 1 minute), 33 pushups, and do a 1.5 mile run in 12:18 seconds. ideal goal is 45 Sit-ups (in 1 minute), 41 pushups, and do a 1.5 mile run in 10:47
Sounds easy, right?
Well current fitness level is:
Sit-ups - 20 in 1 minute
Pushups - 8 max
1.5 mile run - unknown but probably closer to 14min.
Both cardio and strength needs work. I'm not overweight or anything (6'0, 175 lbs), but cardio has always been weak, added to the fact I haven't really worked out in awhile, I'm a bit nervous. I only found out yesterday that I will be evaluated in a month for the position.
So question is, are these goals even attainable? And if so, what advice would you give, that could help me attain at least the minimum goals in 1 month?
Is this 1 month goal attainable?

Why would the job depend on this unusual assessment criteria, as I've never heard of a job requiring sit-ups, push-ups and a 1.5 mile run in less than 12.5 minutes, as an assessment method.
The 1 month timeframe is going to be very hard. I'm not sure you could do it. The push-ups you would have to be looking at doing every day I feel. The running 5-6 days a week and the sit-ups would be a suck it and see thing.
You might improve one or two of those things to around about the level you require, but I'm not sure your timeframe would be productive enough, to improve to the standard you're aiming for.

Lot's of jobs here have this type of assessment. Clearly it's not a desk job.Boss Man wrote:Why would the job depend on this unusual assessment criteria, as I've never heard of a job requiring sit-ups, push-ups and a 1.5 mile run in less than 12.5 minutes, as an assessment method.

Yeah that's what I'm worried about, not having the time to get to where I need to be. But I guess I might as well do what I can to get there. So I guess at this point, I'm looking for suggestions on getting as close as possible to this goal.

Well thne all I can do at this point is reiterate what I said. Running 5-6 days a week, push-ups everyday and continue with sit-ups every day and see what happens

I started out working toward the goal but career goal changed (got a job offer unrelated to this goal) and started focusing on the new job instead of hammering hard at this.Alinshop wrote:I wonder if Redwing ever obtained his goal...
I felt like I was on the right track before I slowed it down due to this change though.

Congrats on your new job. Now you can take your time if you ever decide to try for a similar goal!redwing634 wrote:I started out working toward the goal but career goal changed (got a job offer unrelated to this goal) and started focusing on the new job instead of hammering hard at this.Alinshop wrote:I wonder if Redwing ever obtained his goal...

You would likely be better off by taking things slowly and gradually increasing the workload for each exercise you want to do. Try fitness walking for at least 20 to 30 minutes a day before you start running.
