whats to much training?

Post by brainpain »

i was wondering if i decieded to train chest 2x a week would that be overtraining. current routine is 3 set of 12 reps for bench, 3 sets of 12 reps for inclined bench, 3 sets of 8 reps for inclined dumbell flys, and as many inclined pushups i can do at the end of the routine. is that to much to do twice in a week? thanks for any input

I don't think it is too much overtraining but I would get a decline bench in there instead of the inclined pushups.

Yes it is.

You're doing 9 sets, and then some Push-ups too. So that's like 18 sets on Chest a week, and bodyweight failure 2x as well.

18 Sets is normally a once a week thing, done by big dudes who juice.

Even though you're splitting it into 2 sessions a week, you're just causing yourself potential overtraining, or lack of progress.

I would be inclined 2x a week, to stick to 6 sets a time, so perhaps something like Bench Press 3x, and Crossovers 3x, or Bench Presses 3x, Crossovers 2x + 1 finisher set on Push-ups.

You could repeat that later in the week, and then you're doing 12 sets per week only.

After rereading what I wrote, I did mean get rid of the pushups till failure and throw the incline into the mix, not in addition too. Giving him 12 sets 2x a week.

if your doing the same amount of total sets and reps for rowing movements that it's fine but i bet your not...bare in mind you can't keep that volume up for very long although if you do it for say 3 weeks than have 1 week off from all chest work you'd see growth if food was right
