I am overweight and have been trying to lose a lot of weight and get back into shape. I am 5'6 and was 290lbs. I weighed in at 263.4lbs today. I have lost that weight just by following the Atkins diet without any sort of exercise or workout routine. I am going to the gym this morning to get a membership. I have never really been to the gym and was hoping some veterans may be able to throw some advice way. I have never been "toned" or had any sort of muscle definition at all which I would like to have at some point.
plan is to workout four times a week Sat/Mon/Wed/Fri while sticking to the atkins diet. I was thinking I should do 20 minutes of some sort of aerobic exercise to warm up (elliptical, treadmill, exercise bike ect...) and then do various exercises of three sets with ten reps a piece. I was thinking doing upper body two of the days and lower body the other two days. Does that sound like a good starting point?
ultimate goal is to drop all the excess weight and look and feel fit and in shape. Some people have told me that I need to lose the fat before I start lifting because I will just bulk up rather than lose weight and tone up. Not sure if this is true or not but I thought I would just mention it and see what people's thoughts are.
Any advice or help would be awesome!

Re: Need Advice On Workout/Diet Plan
Best diet I have learned is a change of lifestyle. Eat well and move a lot.

Hi Fitncer this "Eat well and move a lot" sounds very good and true

Re: Need Advice On Workout/Diet Plan
Thanks. I started at the gym Sunday morning and have been wicked sore the last two days. I feel almost normal again today so I may hit up the gym after work again. Thanks for the information.
