Need help with bulking

Post by bodyartt »

Hi, new here. :)

I am an Indian, not familiar with calorie counting and all that, so I just need a little help. I lost 8 kgs in 5 months due to wrong diet - now I only weigh 120 pounds at 5'10".

I want to bulk, but am vegetarian. Is this diet below good for bulking:

Morning: 1 bowl of corn flakes, one slice of bread/1 spoon of peanut butter, 10 peanuts, 5 almonds, 1 glass of milk

Afternoon: one medium plate of rice (cooked), a medium cup of green veggies (cooked)

evening: two slices of bread with two spoons of peanut butter, 10 peanuts

Night: Indian bread/roti (4 pieces) with two cups of side dish

Later: a glass of milk, two pieces of chocolate

How many calories will this diet be, at least approximately - I find it impossible to calculate. Is this calorie enough to gain 1kg per week?

Hi Body good to talk to you.

(I'd remove the almonds and replace them with the same amount of peanuts in addition to the peanuts you're already having, as peanuts will give you the fats and carbs of the almonds but more protein and you'll need more protein intake from such foods to compensate because you're not consuming meat or fish sources and you don't need the milk, except on your corn flakes.)

(Other than that it seems fine enough.)

Afternoon: one medium plate of rice (cooked), a medium cup of green veggies (cooked)

(That's fine, as the veggies are lower GI and will reduce the impact of the higher GI rice carbs on your blood sugar and also you'll lose a little bit of carb content to the cooking process anyway, but the rice has amino acids in it and also there is a bit in something like broccoli, as well as both having a good calcium content which will be beneficial for bone health.)

evening: two slices of bread with two spoons of peanut butter, 10 peanuts

(That seems fine)

Night: Indian bread/roti (4 pieces) with two cups of side dish

(What is side dish?)

Later: a glass of milk, two pieces of chocolate

(I'd forget that)

I can't tell you what you will gain in this way, in terms of weekly amounts of mass, nor can I tell you an accurate amount of calories per day you'll be consuming, but if you use the calorie counter on about.com you'll get a pretty good summary of what it all comes to.

Hi boss, thanks for helping. I tried that site but it doesn't work properly. By side dish, I meant typical Indian side order or side item (something you add with the main item). Will this diet be approximately 2500 cals? Cuz I am trying to bulk, I am too underweight.....

I'm not sure how man calories it will be.

The site I suggested should work, as you just put something in the search box like milk or peanuts, or broccoli and it comes up with different options and you just choose the most appropriate one(s).

If you trying to bulk up just remember that you can add more peanut butter, some olive oil and whole milk. Remember that oats are a great way of gaining weight as well. Finally, heavy protein shake here or there (especially the mass gainers) is going to net you an additional 700 to 800 calories. Good luck!
