Curious about Lifting and HIIT

Post by sprks79 »

Ok, this is first post so I would like to say hello to everyone and I hope this site helps me as it has helped you :)

Now for the question, I have recently began lifting again. I normally lift for about 30-45 min 3 days a week. I was curious as to if adding a few days of HIIt in between would help lose the weight and be ok, or would it hurt the body to exercise so much. I hear of people working out 5 and 6 days a week and was never sure if it was helpful or hurtful. HIIT regimen consists of jump rope, sprints, and jumping jacks mainly. Is it ok to continue like this to achieve maximum fat burn and weight loss, or is there factual evidence to the contrary?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi Scott, good to talk to you.

As you're currently lifting 3 days a week, you could add the HIIT into the schedule like this.

Day 1. Weights

Day 2. HIIT

Day 3. Weights

Day 4. Day off

Day 5. HIIT

Day 6. Weights

Day 7. Day off

Then your schedule could look something like this.

I think that way of incorporating the HIIT will work for you.

Combining lifting and HIIT is an excellent way to burn fat and gain muscle all the same time. Good luck with your goals!

Thanks guys, I was a bit to worried that it may stall me out or even injure myself with so much physical activity. You hear so many horror stories. I do appreciate your responses and am going to try to combine the HIIt and Weights. Just need to make sure I have off days as well.
