I had to put dog down last Saturday...I really did not want to do this.......
The feeling of emptiness is awful....
I feel so bad because when I went to get him he seem so happy to go for a car ride even that I had to pick him up because he could not get in the truck...he was happy...
Me well I know what was going on....I almost back off when i saw the vet everyone know what I was there for...I could not hold the tear in eye i did not want to cry but I could not hold it in.... but he was too sick he was in pain all the time did not want to go pay with other dog is quality of life was zero he did not even want to go outside to do his thing...
I lay down with him on the blanket and she told me to tell him last good bye because when she inject him with this relaxant suff well it will be very quick that he will not respond..he will be too relax...I say there with him watching him breathing watching over him to make sure he's fine talking to him saying that he will be ok because he had fear in his eye but when I started to talk to him he relax ...she left the room and let me be with him for 5 to 10 min....then she came back and ask me if I was ready i was not we never ready for this but I had to be done...so she inject him with the last injection that will slow down his heart rate... I hug him and pet him until she told me he was gone... then when she told me I already know he was gone...I felt a sense of emptiness and still feel it...
I feel bad for what I did... but also try to think that he will not be in pain anymore... I just can't brush that feeling inside me It’s so empty.... also I'm going through difficult time im life but dogs are family...I love them very much I will miss Charlie black lab... I say to myself that he was 14 and had a good live ....now he's not in pain anymore... I'm glad for that.....
I can't brush that feeling ...

Re: I can't brush that feeling ...
I had a childhood dog and witnessed her being put down, due to chronic liver problems. I wasn't badly affected, but main gripe was the way it had to happen, instead of her living a few more years and dying naturally.
Noone in yhe family has never had another dog since, as it ended up becoming a bit impractical what with one thing and another.

Maybe think about getting another pup. There are so many rescues that need homes! It's a hard thing to do though put a dog down.

@ Bossman...It sucks...I taught of letting him live until he could no longer but then he would suffer so I made a decision I really did not want to do this but...now I know he's not suffereing anymore....

That is the most important thing.
I went through the same thing last year, and am so sorry for your loss

As musculArgirl2 said, maybe he needs a new friend. It will probably help you and Charlie ease the pain.
